Something about the discussion about Eileen Prince being a nothing clue made me realise, there might be another point of evidence towards JKR didn’t have everything planned out from the beginning. So major piece of this book’s plot is Snape is the HBP who has all these better ways of making potions than the textbook, if i were writing this series and wanted to lay literally any groundwork for this reveal in earlier books I’d probably toss in like at least one potions class scene where Snape tells the class to mince some ingredient instead of dice it like their book says or something like Snape demonstrates how to make a potion and Hermione notices it’s slightly different from the book method. I’m sure it could be done in a subtle enough way that you could have that scene without people wouldn’t immediately be like ‘Hey, remember that one potions class in the 2nd book…. it’s Snape’ the minute Harry opened the HBP’s book or if JK changed her mind and it never led to anything people wouldn’t be sitting around on Reddit forever going ‘What was up with this clue that never payed off?’ You guys have read the books much more recently that I have so maybe I’m completely forgetting something that does happen but I really doubt I am.
