Cwis home defence is awesome this story just keeps getting better

Bryan Flynn

TFTC!

MVFast

Someone else who’s read Ringworld!!!

Alan Hall

Nice idea, a CIWS is just the thing for home defense against incoming fast movers or dragons

Kirrocen

I'm with Kelly on the gun tower, but like, abstractly? Do the Rivera's have potent defenses guarding their home? Certainly. Are they magical as well as physical? Almost definitely. Is it explicitly a repurposed Phalanx CIWS? In this instance yes, but who knows what form it will take when it actually engaged.

Gudy

“Wait, so he was just… lucky?” And so we learn that Brian has never read Larry Niven's Ringworld novels. Brian my dude, at sufficiently high levels, Luck is fate-altering levels of bullshit. In other news, I don't think a 20mm 6000ROF Vulcan cannon was quite what Chekhov had in mind when he wrote that quip, but hey if that's what you got... But I for sure hope that Actress' home defense system is NOT Chekhov's proverbial gun, as that would foreshadow a future situation that has gone way, way off the rails.

Gotta love the CIWS for home defense

Yeah, never underestimate the value of convenience, especially in a crisis. There are a lot of really cool spells in D&D to bring into the real world, but nothing even comes close to Prestidigitation in terms of value or real world application, and it's the one spell that I basically consider 100% mandatory to have in every party where it's even remotely possible for someone to pick up. Convenience powers are the only ones that objectively improve the quality of your life in every area, by every metric, literally no matter what situation you're in, in day to day life, that's really, really good, in a crisis that's absolutely huge because it takes all sorts of mundane concerns completely off the table, you *never* have to worry about them, which frees you up to focus entirely on the crisis and the big concerns that come along with it.

As a Navy veteran, I wholly and completely approve of using the sea wiz for home defense. I, however, recommend the strongest ear protection and sound proofing money can buy. Those fuckers are loud as hell. Like standing in front of the speakers at a concert while an airplane takes off next to you when you are operating a jack hammer loud. I'm glad you fleshed out Emily's Mom. It's good to see where Emily gets her goofiness from. Shame she won't join the harem though. Another big titty bimbo bouncing on Brian's big(insert your local term for dick that starts with b) would be a nice addition. Although, if she and her sister were in the last harem, her daughter and her being in this one isn't too big of a stretch....

Not the first home-defense CIWS in a RR fiction I've read. > Look at it as being a logistical wet dream That's exactly what it is. It's a morale and logistics superpower, at its most basic. That's a hard to quantity but dramatic force multiplier. Not great at generating force from nothing though. But hey, that's what having more girls than arms is for.

Zach

Brian asked "is her power really X?" The Mom just covered for the girls blindly, saying "yeah, it is X."

Zach

She wanted Emily to have a normal childhood instead of being a magic-nepo-baby with no idea how the world works. The only way to "be honest with her" would be to tell her fairy tales that are real, and actually reinforce that it is real by exposing her to magic and/or Other Places regularly, while educating her that this world has a mundane face to it so she has some kind of grounding. If much rather be raised in a stable normal but wealthy childhood than be some alien princess that has no idea what humans are like.

Zach

No. Reset implies time loops, or at least going back to how things were. Refresh wouldn't do that, it's not about going back, it's about not being bagged down by consequences while moving forward.

kenlon

> He was only ever vulnerable because he then felt morally obligated to always overextend himself to help others. Which we loved him for, but at the same time… And now I want a prequel story. I'm betting that when Brian figures out how to empower Refresh, it'll be more like Reset, with all that implies.

master19man

I feel like this series is just starting even though its longer than a good ammount of series out there already

Jeanie6754

Thanks for the story. Man that thing definitely would pack a punch. Holy snikeys. //While in the navy plays in the background//

Cliff

"That's not very cinematic." 😂

David

I really don’t like that Emily’s mom won’t be honest with her. That’s such an obvious time bomb that it’s ridiculous.

Marcus Cassin

That is super badass, and also, very clever chapter title. Also, even the Mom is somehow in on pranking Brian about the power? She must have listened in on something.

Darth Mollitiam

Emily's mother is honestly a kook and a hoot. I adore her.

Delta

And here I was worried about overpenetration when using 5.56 for home defense

WhiteRabbit

I have to say that is the coolest implementation of an illusion ever
