Eric, the protagonist's proper name in the Canadian film, "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz," was also David...so yes this is a Yiddish thing. BTW, Richard Dreyfuss played Duddy. I grew up in a predominantly Jewish enclave of Port Jefferson on New York's Long Island so I was familiar with a lot of Yiddish names. My best friend in elementary school was a kid named Shmuel.

Weird: I had an Uncle Dudy (one D), my Mom's brother. Born in the early 30's. As I understood it, he had trouble saying David, his name, as a baby. First syllable pronounced like the double-O in hood or good. Hadn't seen the name anywhere else, with one D or two, until now. (Just occurred to me that the Yiddish pronunciation of David is Doovid, same vowel sound, and the stress on the first syllable. Of course a baby's first names and words, if they're two syllables, usually get spoken as the first syllable twice, like mama and dada. So it makes more sense than I'd thought.)

Nice inclusion of Aaron’s mother and the backstory of how she and her husband inherited the resort and left it to their son - as well as how they met Joey Allen. Aaron is obviously a slimeball who only cares about getting laid and getting the money he needs. So now we have the big confrontation!
