We've had a pretty productive month editing-wise! For SAOA, the dialogue has all been chosen, and the shots and timing have all been roughed out. That's generally the most time-consuming part, so we're really excited to be done with that and move on to finishing the lippy-flappies, SFX, music, and special effects. You know, the really fun stuff XD. The bloopies for episode one of MHAA are also close to done, so look forward to that good shit this month at our $10+ tier on Patreon!
In con news, we're going to one! Animu Expu, specifically! We're gonna be hanging out at booth 621 all weekend, selling merch (like hats!!!) and meeting all you lovely-ass peeps! Con runs from July 4th-7th, so come on down!

Finally, we've got some pretty big news. As you might have seen on Twitter the other day, we've come to the conclusion that My Hero has more characters in it than we have actors. Like, more than we've ever met. There's like 20 kids in Class A. It's a nightmare. So with that in mind, we decided we had to do something we haven't done in 5 years: hold open auditions. We're very afraid and excited and afraid to see what comes our way! Last time we did this, we ended up meeting some of our closest friends and Carrie, so who knows what amazingly talented people or Carries we might discover! So give it a shot! The deadline is July 19th, so take your time and follow the instructions carefully. And even if none of these characters work out for ya, never fear! We've got a big cast to fill, and we also need more people for SAOA, so we'll be keeping some golden-throated bois in our back pocket for anything we think you might fit in the future. Wow. I wonder if a local music store could help with mic selection. At any rate, the costs you're quoting are well beyond my budget. I could probably jury-rig the soundproofing, but the equipment? Wow.

Cost-wise, it's hard to ballpark since it can vary considerably. The main things you want are a recording space that's been sound-treated (or something like a closet full of clothes), a microphone that connects via XLR cable, and an audio interface to connect it to. If you don't have a big enough closet to record in, you could also try throwing a blanket over yourself and the microphone, but depending on the room and the thickness of the blanket, this can be less effective. Sound treatment foam can get pretty expensive if you buy it by the square from somewhere like Amazon (CAD $60 for a pack of 12 for example), but we were able to find a local store that sells rolls of it for cheap. For audio interfaces, a Scarlet Solo is a solid basic choice, which is about CAD $160. As for mics, that's gonna vary A LOT, and it's hard to tell what kind of mic will suit your voice best without doing your research. But on the low end, expect to pay at least CAD $500, and up to a few thousand dollars for the best of the best. I believe the Neumann TLM 102 I used for quite a few episodes of SAOA was about CAD $1200. But again, it's really important to do your research to figure out what kind of mic will work best with your specific voice. Some capture higher voices better than lower ones, and vice versa. I hope that helps :)

God I wish I could try out for this. I simply lack the necessary equipment. That, and the only character my voice would probably work for is Present Mic, and I'd rather an actual Brit do that, than my own lame impersonation of a Monty Python character. What would you guys describe as the absolute minimum (in terms of cost) level of investment for something like this? This is the second voice audition I've had to pass up.

If I was a talented voice actor I'd be all up in those auditions. Too bad I can only play a piano. I'll just go play my sad piano mourning over all the lost opportunities I have come across because of my life decisions. :(
