ask permission to say here --> ask permission to stay here

To be honest, I am unsure whether our protagonist is there yet, based on the descriptions of his fights. As an engineer, i always assume that the real world equipment is nerfed heavily in these books, because most authors are unaware of just how much modern weaponry is capable of.

Man, that reminded me why I used to buy books: no fucking cliffhangers.

Anon

Are guns gone? Most hand held guns are purely mechanical. I wonder how effective pre-system gun would be on post-system humans in general. And how those pre-system guns compare to the ones made by people with professions. What's the stat threshold for someone to take a 50 to the head?

Stephen

Won't help...I'll bet $1 that it will be at least Wednesday before we get the resolution to this meeting...

Or humans...

Please write a Saturday release - this is too much of a wait for us.

Thats it. From now on I swear a solem oath to wait until at least 5 chapters have been uploaded so I can once again feel the small amount of the joy I had a while back when I could simply click "next". Oh and thank for the chapter. :D Ur a mad lad for having kept up ur writing pace thus far. The small bit of trepidation I held how the story would progress outside of the tutorial has turned into quiet excitement and wonder as more is discovered of all the changes to the world. I feel like you've really nailed the whole "system-changed-earth" being vast, mysterious and alien and filled with a sense of danger. Something Ive often felt was quite lacking in other novels where a "system" brought about planet-wide change as it quickly narrowed in on the human threat element and largely tends to stay there and with a bit too much focus.

I will say that you either need to space out chapters or write longer chapters in situations like this imo. Staying as a soft cliffhanger for too long will make you lose readers really fast. Either need to have the material to reach the cliff or space it so it doesn't drag too long. Personally the pacing to me feels like we have at least a few boring chapters in a row before things really happen which can kill a reading base.

Chris

Bit of a cliffhanger, oh well ^^ I imagine you're setting up for quite an entrance. One comment I'd like to make is the references to the equipment and comparing it to Jake's... it didn't really fit. Eleanor wouldn't know that they were at 'a level Jake hadn’t encountered on anyone except himself. ' and if that's just there to let the reader know... it's a bit too much telling, not showing.

James Squibb

I appreciate the story and background info, however, it looks like I will need to wait a week or so to get the full story.

Jason Bryant

I respect your take, but I’d have to disagree. I feel like taking a step back is sometimes good for a story’s health. It keeps the pacing consistent. Also, with this story in particular it’s introducing new characters that are likely going to be main pillars in Jake’s city. Neil and his group are likely going to be put into martial or militaristic roles considering their strength. The problem that has been following them(probably a monster of some sort) is most likely just a plot device that’s going to be used to showcase Jake’s own strength to the newcomers and put him in their good faith. This could have been done without a flashback, but that would’ve left little room for the character development and interaction that has been shown.

Seb

It was slightly shorter than normal, but not by much.

I hate perspective jumps....the good ole try and pile on suspense by fluffing up time. Edit: From a more constructive perspective would have preferred to recieve all this "information" from the main characters perspective so as not to pause the story put it in reverse then further down catch up to where we previously were. I feel any time you have to stop the flow of the story you're letting your readers down. There are always ways to provide this type of information in conversation or observation that keep the story moving forward. Rely more on the strength of the protag and less on characters we don't know or particularly care about.

I'm the same!

Matthew Bakewell

Ah maaan! I can’t wait till Monday!!! The suspense is killing me!

...Maybe begin [to] actually [-to-] make... ...a young [man] in the lead. ...like the [women’s >> woman's] injury...

Joshua Green

Once the lie detector came to light to me Miranda started talking like a lawyer. She is choosing her words carefully to not be lies but also not give away too much.

Jason Bryant

We’ll get there in a few chapters probably. Whatever is following Neil’s group is obviously set up to be the main contributor of Miranda’s summoning. The tension has to be built first, then we’ll get back to the present.

_mori

Maybe a level 99 boss?

_mori

Seems like whatever they were running away from followed them back.

V

they are talking pretty weird

It seemed so short to me, well it's clear that I want more.

RottenTangerine

And now I want to know what made Miranda summon him... good chapter though!

MahoganyWood

Ooo I’ve never been this early thanks!

BlackRazaras

Thanks for the chapter
