I actually find side stories interesting specifically when filling in gaps of knowledge and lore. Finding out about the primordial, races, tutorial, etc is all interesting to me. Would love a side story with the different types of alchemy and what they are for or all the professions and/or classes and how they can evolve.

Bettina

I am a great fan of keep it simple. Honestly when reading books I often skip side stories. I get around to the side stories, if the book is good enough to reread. ;)

I have no clue, I'll probably never go above the 5 dollar one, since I live outside of the US and with the pandemic the coin of my country has reached a ridiculous 6-1 ratio with the American dollar, so I pay really 30 bucks for it...

Silfay

I concur. There is no point in subscribing to a story to be able to read ahead, yet not being of a sufficient tier to actually be up to date. I like this story, as do many others, but for people who read as a hobby, one story is just not enough to get their daily fill. Considering that, I feel it might be a gamble on Zogarth's part to change the established pricing. I'm certain there will be many people who will simply upgrade, but there will be those like us who will instead unsub. The question will be whether the former will be large enough to cover the losses from the latter. I hope it will.

Detrox

Honesty, the more chapters it gives the less appeal for permanent subscription there is for me. If you get 50 chapters advance while getting 20 per month, ideal price/chap ratio is sub once every three months and get all the goodies. I believe ideal ratio is for the final tier have same amount of chapters advance as you produce in one month. Then each month beings new content. Also side note it is much harder to bring new people in for 10$ then 5. Good example is Azarinth healer imo

lionheart

I'm completely okay with your 10 dollar patreons getting more...but I think 50 chapters is a tad ridiculous...why not do 35-40 instead

Chris

Most of the appeal for me to follow on Patreon is to get to read the chapters as they are produced (not counting your personal buffer). An extra $5 a month (Amercian) might not seem like too much, but it adds up. One reason I switched from First Defiers' series to yours, it seemed more reasonable for what I was getting - because once you catch up, it is still 5 chapters a week. I would probably go in for the $10 for one month, to read the side stories, once there's more content... have you considered doing a mini-serial on Sundays instead of one-off sides? Following one character (that may become significant later on) elsewhere in the world. It might be easier than coming up with new scenarios/settings/characters so often.

I follow a few authors on Patreon and I never buy any tier other than the one that allows me to read the most amount of chapters. If I find it too expensive I will just read for free on RR rather than subscribe at a lower tier. That being said, I feel like the 5 dollar price point is good for the amount of content(word count) you produce every week.10 dollars is a bit too steep in my opinion and if you add more chapters to the 10 dollar tier I will probably unsubscribe rather than upgrade.

Zogarth

Still thinking about that one...

_mori

Will the change start in april?

Michael

I am significantly more likely to pay 10 dollars for more main story than side stories even though I do love worldbuilding side stories.

Zogarth

You will still get 20/month for 5 just like before. Likely even a bit more with a side story here and there. The 10-dollar tier will move to be getting 25-30 a month until it settles on 50 advance chapters total.

Zoltan Miskolci

The still 20 chapter a month pace for double price? Feels I will pay double and get no extra benefit. I mean a kindle book costs about 10$ and contains like 30-40 chap. If you want to increase your monthly subscription to that range and still keep this pace, it feels overpriced. For 20chap/month I feel the 5$ is still acceptable, but 10 is a bit much

IJustWannaRead

Ah that’s nice. I have nothing against the 10 dollar tier having more chapters, being 100 percent caught up isn’t really an issue for me. I just didn’t wanna scroll through 30 posts on my phone before finding the right one. Glad to know!

Zogarth

I think you can choose "tier" at the top of the menu and select your tier in a drop-down. If not, you should get an email every time a post is unlocked and there will also be a notification and link on Discord.

IJustWannaRead

Is there some way to change settings or something to only unlocked chapters or is that already a thing? Don’t know much about patreon. I’d the 10 dollar tier is gonna end up 20-30 chapters ahead of the 5, I really don’t wanna scroll through all that just to find my chapter every single time.

Sol

yeah if you add more chapters ill gladly double my contribution of 5$ :D

LurkDuck

yeah the 5$ option has been, in my mind, the “all chapters not available to everyone” having the tier above get more chapter would be pretty annoying, especially that we wouldn't be the “first” to get the wonderous chappies :'(

Because a lot of the comments downplay side stories themselves; here's my perspective. We're all here for the main plotline *including the author* but getting side stories is a little bit extra in between the main plot, which the author will (hopefully, please keep going we love you) write and release anyway so all in all it's more content. Next point from my perspective, it's really really really nice to get a supplementary glimpse of all the extra world building that comes with writing fantasy and would otherwise be forever relegated to "notes", and I really appreciate the authors that take time to format it into readable work instead of keeping it locked away to *maybe* release all at once in the future if there's enough die-hard fans. Long time reader first time long post. Blessed be ❤

Pokox

Agreed. Never understood the extreme interest in side stories. I personally mostly skip them in stories

Zogarth

And I don't think that is anything anyone wants.

Pokox

Side stories are hard to write without multiple true main characters.

Pike

Personally I believe you need to be true to the story. I want you to do whatever is best to make this overall a better read.

Daniel Tickle

I'm here to support an author whose story I enjoy. The way I see it, as long as you are enjoying the process then write as you see fit.

Detrox

You misunderstood me. I won't be dropping the story but I would just take a break, wait for royal road to pick up and read there or I would wait say two months and then read three months worth of chapters. And as I said, it's nothing to do with story but the budget I have for supporting my reading habits. As you surely can understand double price means I have to balance the money and I dislike supporting for halfway as I said before

Silver Beard

I know it's called 'Patron' but candidly- this extra money is my 'entertainment' money. I'm not some version of Bill Gates here- every dime is accounted for. So long as I'm being entertained- I can honestly justify to myself and others- giving you money every month. I'd point you at the LoRG that 'puddles....' is writing- he doesn't branch out- and he's doing $6400/mo! I'd enjoy you sharing who else is doing so well- trying to write a main and side stories too?! Recommend you save the side stuff for 'DeepMagic' entries and focus on your Main.

Brisyngr

Not sure how i fell about that (5$patreon here). For me the 5$ is not x chapter a week, it is more having up to date access to the story and while the chapter per week wouldnt change, beeing behind just wouldnt sit well with me. I would probably have to switch to occasionally paying 10$ to catch up and then not supporting for a month or two.

Zogarth

Well, none of these options have anything to do with the main story itself, just the release of it.

Samuel McCarren

Not sure about the poll options but I'm just here for Jake's story tbh. I don't mind if it's occasionally told from someone else's pov but not super into stretching out the story to give side characters more air time or to add some razzle dazzle. A concise story is a good one, makes for good pacing.. think it's been good so far so keep it up!

Detrox

When I consider which stories to support I only pick the tier with full access. Firstly If I want early access I want the whole package and secondly It tends to fuck with most recent posts as the unlocked post isn't latest. Don't get me wrong, I like your story very much but there are more stories I support and sometimes I switch around as my budget is not infinit. When considering which story to drop the 10 $ ones are in my eyes two other stories I won't be picking. So while I absolutely agree with you that the side stories are not worth the effort you have to put in, adding main storyline to 10$ will very likely force me to drop this one and maybe resub once every few months instead of keeping it up the whole time

Hedincool

We stand above all others!

Bodoroo

If 10$ offers more chapters, there will be more than just a few. I personally don't really want to pay an extra 5$ just for side stories. Now, 50 chapters ahead? That. That I can support.

BubblyGhost

Yay! Love for us Apex's! We of the few and mighty!
