Short answer is yes. The system is now the natural way. Evolution is no longer a "slow" process. Also many beings are spawned. It's already shown multiple times... unless I misunderstand the question entirely.

Gunnar Crider

So I've had a question since the very first time we learned that animals can evolve as they progress. Does that mean natural evolution is now impossible? Can a new sentient species be born with the system? Or is natural evolution no longer a thing?

Vance Tenorio

I can understand why a farm-raised animal would hold a grudge against their farm owners. It brings a literal meaning to the saying 'being raised like cattle for the slaughter'. I wonder if Jake will see that, though? Thanks for the chapter!

Thanks for the chapter

"If Jake had to take a gander..." Take a gander means to take a look. "Take a guess" would be the more fitting turn of phrase.

Farm animal getting revenge? The bull was angry because they dared to touch mama cow's tits :D

Gardor

Each pylon is supposed to have a d rank, so d rank territory sized at least

Silver Beard

Got to wonder how far apart these pylons are and/or if they can be created? Supposedly traveled 140km to the fort...then 300 more in his hunt entering yet another biome...and his pylon is still the only one around? Sensitivity to magic would let him notice otherwise

Blaublue

Not the same. Cows aren't slaughtered by having their limbs torn apart and then just intentionally left to rot. I can understand the cow's anger, but farming isn't for the sake of cruelty, although some argue that the way we do it is cruel. If anything, the cow's actions shows that he wouldn't act any better if he had the power - it is doing the equivalent of a human feeding cattle with humans

Close to kin is not kin. They are still animals bred for a purpose. All it takes is one cow remembering and realizing how its children were butchered for food, how they all were essentially slaves or hurt for no reason from their pov. It doesn't even need to be so much hate, just the power and means now to turn the tables and treat humans the same way.

ribbed apart -> ripped apart limps -> limbs

Gardor

Duh, of course it's a minotaur from a farm 300 kilometers away sending daily incursions from mind controlled monster cows. Mooosters

Zogarth

This is the plot of one of a small series of sorts with the side stories :p

Thanks for the chapter!

I must say, depending on where this is, this could be quite the misinformation. Many farms treat their cattle close to kin, to the point the cattle does the same. I cannot imagine even in the CLOSED down mass ranches in the south to have bred such hate. Oh well, just a fact check.

Zadumu

An interesting concept for sure. I suppose this would also mean that there's a non zero chance that someone's pet become D rank but stayed loyal to their owner due to past memories.

“Jake explained, dropping knowledge [he ha had -> he had] learned from Duskleaf and Villy.” I kind of sympathize with this beast, it’s definitely a domesticated farm animal that had its intelligence boosted by the system. I can only imagine how it feels now that it can recognize the horrors it went through during its pre-system life. It’s not a shock that it would harbor hatred for humanity. Thank you for the chapter! ^^

Expected really. Humankind was really cruel to several hundred species of creatures. Domesticated animals in particular. If they all got strengthened by the System then the D-Grades probably remember their time as an animal.
