I’ve got to say that I really like this chapter. It’s not someone talking about a moral high horse and trying to force their opinion on the reader like I see a lot, and I mean A LOT, in ku novels. I also really liked how Villy had a different opinion coming from him being a monster and not born enlightened as that’s totally what would happen realistically. Also really glad mc’s viewpoint isn’t idiotic and tries to stay in the old world mindset and is open to broadening his mind to how things work in the multiverse while also staying true to himself. Overall 10/10

I got to say, I really loved the discussion in this chapter. I have alway been dubious of tamer classes as well because the mechanics of a lot of them seemed too scummy to me who considers my pets as more like little toddler family members.

The slave skill could of been put to good use if he encounter more people he didn’t want to necessarily live but doesn’t want to out right kill just in case they do change. People he can’t trust but doesn’t want to kill like William for example would be perfect for the skill also the time mage girl he killed when he first had his house built.

BrokenMortal

I'm mostly interested in how it affects his records. I hope Jake never grouping gives him a cool skill. Thx for the chapter

Dustin Riley

There is no hypocrisy there. He's not avoiding it because he thinks it's wrong. He's avoiding it because he's too powerful to be bothered.

Talen Drake

Wish I could super like a chapter.

Talen Drake

I couldn't agree more. You defined voluntary slavery better than I could.

Zogarth

Fixed

RedFaux

Thats what a Heretic-Chosen is for. Coming to the order and dismantling its slave trade. Perfect position to point out the hypocrisy of a god personally avoiding it while letting their worshipers and very order practise it.

Zogarth

Nah, that was the Barrier.

BubblyGhost

I thought the upgrade was to epic?

11037

Eh, if the only current option for defeated enemies is death, adding slavery as an alternative doesn't sound that bad. Right now they can't reliably imprison people, so death or banishment is the only posible punishment for serious crimes. This skill would give you the option to not kill criminals and make use of them instead. Of course, bad guys could easily use skills like this for bad things, but that's a different problem.

Indy

don't point that out, people like happy bubbles, not the grim reality.

Indy

Thanks for the cap! Really liked Villy´s extended screen time. Its kinda amusing that walking over an ocean of blood and mountains of corpses is somewhat acceptable, but turning a living being into a servant is where we draw the line. 21st century moralities would adapt rather quickly in face of a system Apocalypse, it isn't like our worldview is something absolute, it would fade as fast as it came to be. Jake did a good job in mirroring a common u.s. view on the topic, slavery the big no-go like a persistent generation spanning infected wound that everybody can agree on its sinisterness, while on the other hand razing other peoples villages with overwhelming air strikes for personal gain is kinda ok.

Bob

Meh. I'm from the South. My underwear is still made from cotton hand picked and sewed by slaves... Chinese and indirectly Indian slaves from inside the borders of their own countries. Progress, I guess? Let me check using the device made by slaves and powered by slave mined cobalt... Apparently being socially aware of all my slave sourced goods does not count as social progress. My bad. At least I'm not a hypocrite.

Bobtur

Thanks for the chapter ! Suggestion : " It would be like holden a toddler to its words for life" > holden > holding "Alphas, nobles, leaders, or all kinds" > or all kinds > or other kinds ? "Slavery abound here!” > abound > around here or abounds there "and he was too damn stubborn to ever to do so." > to ever to do > to ever do

Titania

I like the stab into morality Zo because damn is it annoying to either not know or have conflicting morals on a main.

Zogarth

What if they can't be released?

Joseph

It seems pretty simple to me. Being a tamer is okay, as the beings being tamed are not capable of sapient thought. As soon as the beings are capable of sapient thought, they should immediately be freed and allowed to live their own lives, as doing otherwise would turn from taming into slavery. Theres not really much nuance to be had here.

Zogarth

Not sure how he was wishy-washy at all.

Jace Stephens

I like this story, I really do but the fact you had Jake act wishy washy on the issue of SLAVERY of all issues. It made me really dislike him.

Jim

Slavery abound here!” -> abounds

Simon

This is why I enjoy reading this. As much thought and character building went into this as what some authors put into entire arcs. Thanks for the chapter!

Dont_like_to_Talk

Thanks for the chapter

Joshua

The beast stuff is so true and I totally never thought I'd experience human bias haha. Also I feel giving up the skill and talking and coming to a conclusion like this should effect his records. While he totally needs a sort of Apex leader or Alpha skill where creatures willingly join and it's like some expanded leader skill for all those who wish to follow his path but no soul slavery. The idea of a soul freely given is more powerful than one taken.

Varro

Asking the real questions here. ;)

Tomer Yud

He will build one himself :p

Adrian Engel

Very well said

swug

Thx for the chapter

Charlie

Jake is far from perfect, but I'm definitely glad to see more engagement with system apocalypse moral issues. You can only say 'this is a new world, new rules' so many times before it sounds like the MC just wants to justify whatever they have to do to get more power. I think the Viper is especially interesting in that he clearly has a lot of terrible views but still comes off as a reasonable person. Please do more of this! Very interested in where their characters go.

Bailey Lowe

I'm really glad Jake opted out of the dominion choice, really good way to define his character further, especially talking back to the viper as he did and it's easy to see how each character could end up with different views here too. Thanks for the chapter.

Should_be_working

So hows he going to free the trolls?

Zogarth

I am interested in what part makes him appear dense? It isn't like he even argues back, and most people don't really think about slavery in their daily lives. Also, the whole aspect with pets and such isn't something I reckon most talk about (especially not dependent on so many damn people wanting Jake to get a pet).

Yashakami

Awww, I liked the barrier

Seijax

I agree that these chapters are necessary, especially to show where Jake stands and define his opinions, but i also think that nothing here was rocket science (or affinity mysteries). This whole chapter was the Viper retelling Jake that the multiverse is a jungle, and Jake remembering that culture is a bias construct. As far as epiphanies go it's apocalypse 101, and it taking this long of a back and forth (longer than average dedicated chapter) makes Jake appear really dense

Kevin Zhang

I like that he skipped on the servant/ally trap. Usually the servants would never be stronger and are just tacked on for no reason just like overgeared and Grid's random ass pets and summons. Diverging the focus now to have to properly develop and manage extra characters would be bloating. Also this story is at least a grade above Overgeared,

Alan Kaiser

Ah yes, the Golden Rule: it’s alright to kill shit so long as you expect them to try and kill you back.

Arrogant Savant

Thanks for the chapter
