Fortunis

Nah, better to have it done with. Some crimes are so terrible there just isn't enough torture in the world for.

Joshua

That was too quick. The family killer I was already wanting him to contact villy for some crazy painful ritual thing. K

Nicholas Paterson

Some quick edits: At least the man is reason enough not to argue. -> reasonable(?)

RedFaux

Yeah, I mean if he was a real guy I would absolutely call the police, but he's a strangely likable character.

I like this Sultan character. Slimy but has a backbone on his beliefs

Balsamic ThunderThighs

So let's see we have a Poisoning Alchemist and A Pathfinder whose a stalker that killed... Six wives, three girlfriends and fifteen children. What will become of them I wonder.

Chris

Best line of the whole chapter

Chris

You know he's going to set up shop in Haven. The status of the other two is up for question

Ron Whitlatch

You defending slavery?

RedFaux

I like Soltan as a character

Luke Pyle

So Zorgoth I personally would advise adding all three of these chapters to Royal Road at the same time. I think the cliff hanger from these chapters could cause some problems, and while the first chapter makes everyone really delve into the slavery lines, these last two give Jake some beneficial character rep. Just a suggestion.

Jake and Miranda are clearly the bad guys here. Making up laws randomly to extort visitors. Murder of prisoners without a trial. Destruction of property. They're practically demanding everything Sultan owns for the crime of not knowing a law they just made up. I mean, sure it's fun to be the bad guy, but let's not pretend they have the moral high ground.

This does feel a bit strange, but I can't quite put my finger on why. I guess there are really only three outcomes; 1. Kill sultan 2. Exile and make an enemy of him or 3. Befriend him. Jake doesn't really seem to be the type to ponder on why his enemies should die, he just sorta goes and kills them when they're a problem - as shown in the last scene. It would be slightly out of character to kill sultan in cold blood now, so that leaves option 2 and 3. Thing is, they're acting like such assholes that option 3 is pretty much out. But 2 is the worst option because it makes an enemy and sets him free... It just seems like a weird way to respond, and one that a useful relationship is extremely unlikely to come out of.

Zebrababies

Do we know what level Jake is around now? The power disparity between him and other d grade humans is interesting

Felrook

It’s less of a specific line and more of an “alright, this is way to fucked up. I’m gonna do something about it, and I don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks.”

Heraclitus

God, Jake and Sylphie are such a dicks. I love it.

Zadumu

This is an interesting development. This chapter has almost stripped Sultan of everything that I found interesting about him. I find it hard to believe that his persona when he was introduced was just a charade so either he's hamming it up now or he is just going to be background noise. What I find most interesting is the arbitrary line drawn in the sand and where specifically the line is drawn. Is it torture? Is it the number of innocents killed? Is it not having remorse or being proud of what they did? Is it because their class makes pain and misery a necessity? Sure, you could argue that torturing and killing over 500 people is worse that stalking and killing a handful of people but why does one deserve an immediate death while the other's sentence is being deferred? Normally, I wouldn't question it because I could write it off as "Jake wanted to kill them so he did" but these last two chapters have shoehorned morals into this situation so I'm curious if there is a specific line that Jake has subconsciously set.

Chris

Miranda looked over him, looked over at him

Vaccus

The "continue" made me smile.

Jeremy Patrick

Lol. Well thats that. Still dont like the sultan.

40% actually. Sultan is also on trial.

Bunny Waffles

Breaking any major laws swiftly becomes a terrible idea when the guy in charge of the area can blow your head off from miles out before you even know what hit you.

Jake is projecting a Bond-villain image, except with a hawk instead of a white cat.

Clint

Well, that's half the cases handled. Seems clear that those two were completely un-reformable and just another horrific atrocity waiting to happen.

Clint

When class or profession is stuck at 99 because it hasn't evolved, XP goes directly to racial levels. It should (somehow) even out after both class and profession have evolved.

flssdd

I think either something is missing or I'm missing something. Have to reread his own evolution. But where are these extra 2 levels come from?

ThrasherGX

I read it as the opposite of retroactively. As in, they will only go after people currently breaking the law, not past slavers.

Would have been badass if he had grabbed them both by the head, coconut-ed them together, and Malefic Touched them into EXP in front of everyone.

Dont_like_to_Talk

Thanks for the chapter

Jonathan

and have chosen to have the law work proactively,” retroactively? Not that that would be exactly fair. I'm just not exactly sure what she means by proactively.

Azareck

She already does? Especially when she tries to sneak with that tornado

Should_be_working

If jake keeps spoiling sylphie she's going to become a spoiled little princess who causes havoc everywhere she goes... not that I'm complaining

BlackRazaras

Thanks for the chapter

Syntrx

God, I wish Jake had tortured them.

Jonas Larsen

Executive decision, I love it.

Arrogant Savant

Wowzers those are some fucked up women

Syntrx
