Blake Richardson

Thanks for the chapter

Ben

Technically Jake didn't lose. The faught multiple rounds where Jake won then a draw. Jake still actually won.

jordan

Not really.

Hunter Vook

Time for a Transcendent skill for Jake.

jordan

Seems like Jake's highest priority should be to deal with the Fallen King of the Forest, and asking Villy's advice about that. I would be very concerned if I were him, since it seems that it can communicate mind-to-mind so maybe it could influence his mind.

BrokenMortal

Getting sage advice from Vily is always good. Thx for the chapter

when I first read the title I was worried about reading some boring conversation and jake feeling sorry for himself. I think you nailed that chapter. It was very engaging and I seriously enjoy the interaction between the two. It also really cleared up how/why sword saint is so good. Nice job Z

Zogarth

Nah, fuck em, they can get cliffed to hell and back.

Zogarth

Did be fixed.

Zogarth

Fiiiiix!

Zogarth

Fix!

Might wanna release the chapters for the duel in one big clump for royalroad. So less negativity from salty people being cut off

Simon

Thanks for the chapter. This is the kind of chapter that makes me enjoy this story more than most others, so much wisdom and good shit packed into the first part. Makes it clear this is really thought out, and how much is put into this

You handled Jake loosing really well, I'm impressed. Good chapter, thx.

Edit - didn’t mean to make this a reply but can’t delete it for some reason lol. Ya know, kinda feels good knowing that the sword saint has to sacrifice his literal progress just to match jake when jake doesn’t even know how to fight skill humanoids well. Coupled with the drawbacks and jakes inevitable increase in skill, I don’t see any way that the gap doesn’t simply increase, and every time they fight it should get wider and wider as the sword saint is forced to take his set back just to stand a chance. Furthermore, it’s easier to improve skills at lower skill levels, whether it’s fighting or a system skill, so really, while jake might never be a better sword fighter, the gap should inevitably close, meaning jakes level will accelerate far beyond the saints and the skill gap will shorten. Unless of course some BS gets pulled to keep sword saint relevant.

far productive approach --> far more productive approach

Douglas Norton

There better be a goku wanabe transcendent

Heraclitus

To be fair, the Sword Saint had to literally sacrifice, like, what? 20 levels just to ever so barely eek out a win. And even then, it was stupidly close. I'm fine with the loss, even if it was a bit narratively forced, since it felt kind of necessary to help grow Jake's character. No one else on Earth - or at least no other humans - could have pushed him to reflect in the same manner.

a Transcenden transformation -> a [Transcendent] transformation

Jonathan

didn’t really needto learn need to not-to-pleasant not-too-pleasant

Jonathan

with a far productive approach as he reflected on it all more productive Hence Jake Hence, Jake

Doug Hendrickson

Thanks for the chapter! Quick spelling note, missed a letter here: "Transcendan transformation just making someone stronger is the apex"

Greiü

Thanks for the chapter. Im a bit dissappointed that Jakes bloodline didnt have a stronger reaction to losing.

"Yeah… that is part of the Holy Church memo". Modus operandi, often abbreviated m.o. or MO

Torbjørn Nilsen

For me the problem with the big fight was that I 'knew' Jake would lose. It just fit in the story, and the arena favored the close combatant. With all those chapters being used for the fight, it exacerbated the problem with knowing the outcome until it got plain old boring. So I skipped the last two or thre chapters. This chapter was nice though. Thanks.

Tilen Praprotnik

Thanks

BenjiVoid

But everyone knows about that fight.

John Anastacio

He hasn't even told Miranda yet that he killed at least one city lord and possibly more than one. I'm curious about the consequences of the ambush/decimation.

BlackRazaras

Thanks for the chapter
