Don't forget that the protomolecule told Holden the creators are gone and that they're going to find out what happened to them. It "reached out" and nothing was there.

Since you've finished S3 after making this, you know where you're tight and wrong. Just one minor clarification: you said, "if the probe missed Phoebe...," The probe WAS Phoebe, itself. Astrophysicists today believe it came from outside our solar system and was "captured" by Saturn's gravity.
