Derek won’t interfere with Jaces fight at all unless Jace was absolutely outmatched and about to die, but because it’s at a somewhat standstill and the odds aren’t out of Jaces favour he knows that Jace would just get pissed if he interferes tbh lol

I don't think letting him live would have been a good call even if he was able to heal and swear whatever oath Derek would have demanded. He was to much of an asshole and it would still be a big risk.
