And one thing to note is that Zeke has had his titan longer than the others. Zeke will die in one year but Reiner/Pieck still have a couple years left. Which is why Zeke’s successor has already been chosen, but the candidates are still competing to be Reiner’s successor.

Lmao Tybur Hammerhands is the newest vision from Tim Burton - I’m really not sure what the other Warriors are thinking. Porco i think is like the Marleyans said, usually doesn’t question orders… but Pieck and Reiner are pretty intelligent, so I wonder what they’re thinking about when it came to the revelation that if they don’t end up capturing Paradis Island… the Eldian race’s reason for existing will very quickly become obsolete lol. And also, I can’t tell if Reiner picked up on the “not in this room” comment because, for one thing probably has figured out that nothing anyone says anywhere is private, and/or if he’s picking up what I believe Zeke is putting down in this moment lol I know I’m late but I like to input anyway xoxo

i just now picked up on the symbolism of the window doors flying unhinged after Reiner described the scouts on Paradis as kinda normal people and Gabi and everyone questioning for a second, before the mom closes and locks the window while going back into the propaganda speal of "of course they're devils"

That's a pity because in the last couple of episodes that came out, there were some oscarworthy VA performances in sub. Probably the best Japanese voice acting I've ever seen in last 2-3 AOT episodes.

Reiner is in TOP form in this episode. He covertly shows Falco how to use the propaganda as a camouflage, and he talks over Porco when he's about to say something seemingly anti-marleyan when the officers are listening in. He protects his fellow Eldians and he knows how to do it, and this episode shows that well

Yeah, Gabi's name is pronounced like Gabby; Gabby spelt phonetically is Gah-bi. My point is some are pronouncing the vowel sounds like CAR-BEE GAR-BEE. I didn't expect this to run into a debate lol It was just something I noticed. Even Kenny and Montana noticed in the first episode. It really isn't that big of a deal; it just catches me off guard sometimes.

I think they're pronouncing it the same as the original Japanese VAs and that's why it sounds weird, because it should just be pronounced the way most Western English-speakers pronounce it for it to sound natural in dub. I think Germans would pronounce it the way the dub is pronouncing it, like how the original and dub both say "Reinah" instead of ReinER, so maybe that was the thought behind it. But I agree it still sounds unnatural with American VAs.

Some characters say it the way it pronounced in Japanese original, but some don’t. Also I’m not comparing the it all to the movie just the mispronouncing of Gabi’s name sometimes. It isn’t a change in language also as Gabi is more of a western name. It’s usually short for Gabrielle.

I don't know why in the English dub they're pronouncing Gabi's name differently. It's pronounce as you would expect Gah-bi, not Gar-bee. Oh well, just gunna have to get used to it. It's giving me Avatar movie flash backs haha

Also like those descriptions, if you take out his tone, are the kind of thing someone says affectionately insulting someone. Reiner cares about his old comrades in the scouts and he's calling them idiots by sarcastically saying they are all devils.

Yeah, the follow up is that he tells Falco that he definitely needs to save Gabi by surpassing her as a warrior candidate. Reiner loves his cousin and doesn't want her to inherit a titan and is encouraging and warning Falco about saying the wrong thing to someone who will report him.

I feel like we need to introduce Montana to the trope of an anime character saying something really dumb/weird with an extremely serious demeanor. It's usually not to be taken at face value, a bit like sarcasm, which is IMO what Reiner is doing with that monologue about absolute devils who eat potatoes and *gasp* gave the instructor the smaller half!

Another thing I noticed is that a couple times when a character says “wait” in the japanese audio they say “warte”. When I first heard it I figured it was just a coincidence that the japanese and german word for wait sound similar, but I have since looked it up and can’t find any translation of “wait” into Japanese that sounds at all like “warte”. My japanese is not great though and I was relying on google so I could be wrong and it could still just be a coincidence. If anyone knows japanese better than me and knows if “wait” can be translated to “warte” in japanese, or if not then why they would use the german word, feel free to let me know

I agree. It's tough to place what real world equivalent Marley might be based on, if any, but it definitely seems that Eldians are at least somewhat based on Germans. Every Eldians name has a German origin, Paradise island landscapes look German with German looking architecture, plus many of the main songs throughout the show are sung in the German language. Very interesting

You know, I’ve been going over the details of Marley and initially, like many other people, I thought Marley is supposed to be an alternate Nazi Germany. However, I believe they’re a lot closer to an alternate Fascist Italy while Eldians are alternate Germans. Oh well, a fascist military dictatorship is still a fascist military dictatorship.

The armbands eldians wear are different colours based on their “rank” or “class” essentially. Normal eldians wear grey armbands, warrior candidates such as Falco, Gabi, Colt etc. wear yellow armbands. Red armbands are for “Honorary Marleyans”, these are for the Warriors and their immediate family members such as Reiner and his mother or Zeke and his grandparents.

Yeah I think he was just making sure he never said something like that to the wrong person. Reiner wouldn’t turn him and agrees with the sentiment but doesn’t want falco to get turned in for saying something like that, even if it’s to someone he thinks he can trust.

I think you may have misinterpreted what Reiner was telling Falco on the train. It was more like "Yes, you're right. Inheriting a titan is a curse, and you have to save Gabi from it. But don't ever say it out loud." Falco and Reiner are on the same page.

I liked how Reiner was describing all of his comrades from the island. Sasha and her potato, Connie with the bathroom, Marco, Jean, Eren with Mikasa and Armin who followed him.... Yep. Montana didn't seem to react to Reiner's mini flashback with Annie and Bertoldt. I was hoping she would. I love the reacts!! Keep them coming!
