A decent way to think about it is that alchemy is basically science. The Eastern applications are focused heavily on medical uses so they have a lot of knowledge about that aspect, while the Armestris focus has been on combat uses. It's the same fundamental discipline but different understandings of it. That and you would also have people going to and fro sharing knowledge.

Reminder that Wrath ages, which is not a thing the other homonculi appear to do (remember Lust and co discussing how they have been alive for ages and haven't seen each other for at least a hundred years and they have not aged/changed during that time). If someone wants to take the highest office in the country, they would definitely need to have a trail of their personal history, especially as a soldier in the military. It would be incredibly suspicious if they did not have records of being younger and working their way up.

A little insight for Montana and Kenny The only limit for any alchemic (alkehestry) process is the requirement that there be a circle. This would be why for May when she did her long range alchemic attack the first thing to manifest was a circle connecting the five kunai.

Love this reaction guys, I knew you'd hate the cliffhanger at the end! One thing to add, you asked how May knows Combat Alchemy. It might not have been very clear when Alkahestry was explained, but it's not exclusively medicinal. It's just customarily used for healing in Xing. Alkahestry is the Xinghese version of Alchemy and can have all sorts of uses. But for one reason or another Amestris decided to go all militaristic with it while Xing focused on healing. I always thought that was actually quite an interesting concept. Like how Nuclear power can be a source of clean and cheap energy, while also being incredibly destructive as a weapon.

Not only was what Lan Fan did very smart, she literally cut off her own arm using a kunai. Kunais are not very sharp. So yeah 😬 very very impressive she had that kind of resolve
