Weekly Roundup 119 - 26/08/2022 - Polish and Bug Fix Update!
🕑 Added 2022-08-27 01:42:10 +0000 UTCHi Everyone!
It's the last weekly roundup of the month and I've got a new playable build to share. Be sure to give it a download and play!
Lets get into what I got done this week:
1: What's New?
This week ended up being purely focused on improving the gameplay experience through bug fixing and polishing up some items in the game!
Some bugs where weeded out with the new Slime Monster enemy that I took the time to address as well:
These Slime Monster Fixes include:
- Bug fixed many interactions with the slime monsters. Now the game shouldn't glitch out when you get captured by one on top of a tentacle trap tile.
- Fixed the bug where you could hit enemies more then one tile away from them.
- Fixed the bug where slimes could merge together even as one is dying.
Gameplay Polish:
- Camera zooms now do a better job of focusing on the object in question like prisoners or captured cultists.

- Tentacle traps how have a warning VFX before they attack

- Pillar and door prisoner encounters now have some subtle lighting, making the art look a bit more nicer and dynamic.

- Player Characters facial expression changes when the player struggles to escape the slime monster entrapment.

- Item collect read-outs how have a subtle positional deviation when they appear, which makes multiple coming up at once easier to read.
- The intro cutscene skip now mutes down the voice over and music as well, which is a better indication of there being a skip.
- The tutorial level has been polished so the player can't take damage and fail it. The cultist has been replaced with a slime monster.
- The player character vanishes on the exit portal properly again.
- Audio volume upon first game start should be set to max, as opposed to set to minimum.
Persistent bugs to be addressed in the long term:
- Enemies often move into eachother, the players space, and walls. This is a pathfinding bug that we're working to address over the next few months. When that's ready it'll be a big update to the entire pathfinding system.
2: What's Next?
For next week in particular I want to focus on something that's missing from the game that should give it more impact once it's present: Sound Effects.
The game has basically gone without them for this long because there was so much to do in the visuals and gameplay departments, but I think spending a week searching for and putting in some sound effects should do it some good!
I can't promise how much work I can get done in that week but it will result in a new build.
Cheers!

Would also be nice to have facial expression changes to the other QTEs

The new build has been fantastic, and as always amazing updates to the game - you're doing awesome work! Something I really enjoy is the lore pieces the player can collect and I'm super excited to see the different pieces we can collect in future. Regarding this, something I picked up on was mentions to tickling being a little scarce. A lot of the gameplay involves tickling, so I found it odd that the lore didn't mention it all that much (btw I noticed the change to the lore entries involving Bindmancer being spoken to directly - nice touch). I've seen a lot of tickling games where it can refer to it A LOT, which can be questionable. But personally I think it might be nice to see a little more of the T world casually slipped into lore text here and there.

Please do. Let me know if something works or if nothing does.

It might also be the keyboard setup. Are you using a WASD english keyboard layout?

That is strange! Try changing resolution or switching to full screen mode. It might be the case what Unity thinks you're tabbed out of the game. If you installed the full version on top of a demo version, then try deleting the game and reinstalling it again.

A very promising project going on here
