Midnight Resistance comes to the FPGA world this week. This game was ported to most home systems in the 90’s. It belongs to the run & gun genre, but it isn’t as hard as most titles. Unless you set the difficulty to hard, the game can be beaten with a little practice. The use of colour by the artists is very good, particularly in the backgrounds. Compared to the home versions, colour is probably the most obvious difference.
This game belongs to the DEC series we started with Dragon Ninja, but it doesn’t use the same board. This system shares the same two graphic chips, but the sound CPU is different -it uses the same one as the PC Engine. The board is very similar to Sly Spy’s but not identical. This caused a headache with the layer priority system. Esperanza had been working to extract that circuit from a Sly Spy PCB but then we realised that it didn’t match. Comparing PCB pictures, the two are almost the same except for a couple of places, and that was one of them. So the layer priority is implemented as in MAME for now, until we get access to a board.
I wanted to implement the control using dual analog sticks, but I didn’t find a nice spot to hack the M68000 memory as I did for Heavy Barrel. So for now, we have to use two buttons to spin the character. I got, however, a spinner thanks to Hursit. I will look into connecting it to the MiSTer.
I have not been able to put serious time into the NGP for the last two weeks, so for next week there will not be a new core. I will focus on NGP instead. We will get back to releases on the following week.

Midnight Resistance llega al mundo de las FPGA esta semana. Este juego fue portado a la mayoría de los sistemas domésticos en los años 90. hi everyone, is anyone else having problems with rotation left and right on this and heavy barrel? it either misses a press or double presses, wheni need it to move once, cheers Deano

Hi Holger - you need to go to the dip switches - turn flipping to OFF then go to save settings. Then restart the core and it should be the right way round
