This is how I prep Mike, I am showing how I prep and taking you guys along for the ride if you want. You don't have to agree with it; your ideology works for you and that's great, for you. I prep everything that you mentioned as far as all the basics but I also choose to prep long term pre-packaged foods. I'm not going to change the way that I prep because someone doesn't agree with it. If you don't agree with how I prep that's fine as long as you are prepping in a fashion that fits your beliefs and your life style. All that matters is that you are prepping, you don't have to buy anything that I show on my channel but for those that do, my reviews give them an opportunity to get a bit of an insiders view of what the product is like prior to them purchasing it. Dude ... .... I think if you're talking to PAYDAY'ers AND FREEZE-DRIED Yuppies ... well ... the answer is the middle (me). START with rice/beans. Then MORE rice and beans and a FoodSaver or buckets. Move out from there. Dehydrator. The whole "freeze dried" thing is a marketing scam. You hinted at it ... why buy ANYTHING to last "25 years" when you should be going for 5 years (vac sealing), rotating, and self-sufficiency in 2 years? Buy a "bug out 72-hour kit?" ..... Maybe ... MAaaaaay-be ... Bread? Buy wheat, a grinder, a bread machine (I have solar but can bake in my wood stove). I buy 1 lb vac sealed yeast, salt, sugar. Keep some veg oil ... I'm still using a gallon of Wesson I got that was "best by 20-TWELVE!" Keep in my office. Have NEVER had a problem. I have the LDS PREPPER rainwater system. .... Just put down the waste of time items and live like SHTF already happened.
