What I'm working on?

I’ll keep this post updated regularly as I work on features between releases.
Please note: the features and updates mentioned here won’t be available until a future release, usually the next one, but not always.

Radtel RT-950 nicFW [Click for releases]
✅ Completed
RT-880 - Improved VFO ultra scan speed.
This is pretty much as fast as I can get it, the 880's RX stage is just not as fast to settle down as other radios, so the BK4819 needs more time to get enough of a signal.RT-880 - Channel scanning now entirely skips any channel that would need to toggle the band relay.
RT-880 - Maidenhead locator bug regarding negative longitude/latitude fixed.
RT-880 - Bug with GPS navigation and negative longitude locations fixed.
Many thanks to Wayne for his help getting to the bottom of this.
🔧 In Progress
RT-880 - Other APRS
Working on decoding other formats of APRS, such as hotspots, points of interest etc..RT-880 - Investigating SSTV decoding.
New approach
Robot 36 being tested.RT-950 Storage Backup system.
Note 950 and 880 are very similar, both MCU wise and hardware wise. Thus I can parallel develop.
Notes / Caveats
Items listed here are development progress notes, not release notes. Features remain subject to change, and availability depends on final testing and release decisions.
If something is marked 'In Progress' it may:
change in behavior,
be deferred to a later release, or
be dropped if it proves non-viable.

Hi Marcus ... Thank you so much !!! :-)
Marcus Dudley
What's the point?

"Investigating SSTV decoding --- New approach " ??? What kind of approach do you have in mind? Can you implement export audio file wav or real-time decoding via RMS? ...If I may ask... :-)
Marco Schneider
I just found this: Is the dream of having a portable SSTV transceiver becomming reality? https://github.com/vaugerbird/sstv-backpack
Marcus Dudley
Sure, that's an easy one.
Marco Schneider
Hey Marcus. Scrambler can be sometimes usefull. But 3600 is not enough. Is it possible to get 3700-3900, too?

Did you do a settings default?
Ramon Martinez Palomares
After flashing 06B, the radio asks for a PIN (i have no pin setup) is there any default pin?
Marcus Dudley
You select the group either by entering a number (LP-# for the 880) 1=A, 2=B, 3=C etc.. or by pressing * / 0 to move to the previous/next group (same as every other version of nicFW since day one), explained in the PDF in the documents section here. https://www.patreon.com/posts/130729377?collection=1537808 Page 31

How do you select the group that's used on each of the three VFO's without relying on the assigned key for select group. Can it be done through the menu?
Marcus Dudley

Marcus Dudley
If you set a PIN it locks the PTT as well.
Artur Kosonowski
Hi Marcus. Is it possible to add a function to the advanced settings menu that would “lock the PTT button together with the keyboard”? Unfortunately, I often accidentally press the PTT button (when taking the radio out of my jacket), which unfortunately wakes up the repeaters. Such an option would be very useful. The PTT button on the Radtel is very sensitive and delicate. I think this feature would work perfectly with “automatic keyboard lock” function. What do you think?
Marcus Dudley
That's reasonable.

Long time ago someone asked if the red button and # button could be reversed. So it would be working as the original, and also does what the # button says (V/M) You didn't like the idea, because you want Nicfw to be working the same on different radio's. (I understand that) But, maybe it's an idea to make it optional? For example: Main menu -> advanced- > reverse red & # I also use an 880 with original fw (because it has sn below 300) and there the buttons work opposite

To state this again, settings in the RMS will the last thing I add to it. Settings change too much, they move, get adjusted etc.. I forget how many times I've had to say this now.
Aat van den Bos
Hi Marcus , will there be APRS settings in the RMS ?
Casey Yarborough
i sure hope so, my car key fob is on its last leg, perhaps a "emulation" menu with different folders of presaved items, and a mode to "listen" to copy to an empty space would be bonkers fingers crossed its not too much of a bugger
Detlef Fenske
I am learning a lot about APRS here. Thank you very much for your excellent work, Marcus.

😏 880 will be a Flipper Zero before we know it..
