Sauce Diaries: Sukajan Statement Piece

Careful reader Douglas "The Legal Regal Beagle" Wykstra mentioned the "casual Friday" concept in reply to an earlier Sauce post, and it must have stuck in my head, because this is what happened today. I wanted to wear this amazing sukajan that my friend Big Items Ben brought me back from Japan, and these iconic military souvenir jackets from Dobuita naturally draw in other midcentury Americana military elements. (Ben is something of a sukajan historian, and I hope to feature his teachings more here in the future.)
To that end: some super high-rise (I'm talking over the belly button) fatigue-green wide leg (10", suckers) chinos, a ringer 3/4 sleeve baseball tee, a layered pop of collared red to add some life and depth, less-common but still-classic aviators, and some old Keds. Element of discord? The Stetson Stratoliner, Lauren's first xmas gift to me. The Stratoliner is a vintage fedora style with a low crown meant to accommodate cramped airplane cabins, but I find it handy just for sitting around the house.
I recruited Lauren into taking a full-length photo today, but the winter beard made my head look a bit too "we found the body down by the river," so it's a crop today. This is fine, because I'm still getting used to making myself an object of scrutiny and vanity.
Please tell me one of you has worn a daring item of clothing this week, either with or without the help of The Old Sauce Jar.

Man, that jacket is just … wow. Really, really top notch- I’ll confess to a bit of envy, because I’m not sure I could pull that off, as much as I’d like to. My sense of pizazz runs in a different direction, though I’ll say that I can (and do) roll with with every other item in that look (excepting the socks, of course, which I can’t see but assume are there, confining and oppressing your feet). The multi-layered shirt look with chinos is my standard fall/winter casual outfit, but on top, I’ll do an overshirt like an LL Bean chamois/flannel shirt of an appropriate solid color or maybe something plaid (I just scored a really good-looking patchwork tartan flannel shirt on sale at RL, and it’s just perfect for me). Shoes are always some sort of loafer or buck. Love the canvas boat shoe, but with me for some reason, it does not lend itself to regular, long-term wear without socks.

WAOW. This is flashy. Flashy can sometimes be the move. I wore a black oversized Starbomb t-shirt with a neon logo and black leggings but my socks were rainbow striped leg warmer scrunchy style on top of bright turquoise and lime green New Balance sneakers. I was only continuing to clean out a hoarded house and hitting the Kroger for dinner ingredients so I wasn't tryna be seen but the colors were pretty much screaming against the black. Hair was only low pony and bandana today because of the dust.
