🕑 Added 2017-10-16 17:59:31 +0000 UTC For those not in the know - Storyboard Artists have an abnormal application process. Potential employers never send you a form to fill out, or ask for your resume, and in some cases never even ask for references. Instead, they send you a packet of files which usually include a script and character references, and ask you to provide a sample of your work based on these things.It's basically spec work, which in any other profession is a Very Bad Thing (TM), but that's just the way this industry works.
Thankfully, the Animator's Guild (ie the Union for professional artists in LA) has very strict rules about tests like these, which limits script page counts and the hours of work people are supposed to put into them...
...but all of that counts for NOTHING when you really really really want a specific job. Oh my gosh, you guys, I want to work on this project so bad.
(The studio didn't send me an NDA to sign, as is also customary in situations like these, but I'm not taking any chances and have blurred the content for the time being.)
So, over the past weekend I've been working nonstop trying to get this thing done by the deadline, which unfortunately didn't leave any time for comic work. As such, the comic will be unable to update tomorrow.
SO HERE'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO:
- Yoko has already provided some filler content for tomorrow's update on the official site to accelerate alternate community options, since the comment section is going away (I am really excited to get rid of that distraction so I can spend a lot more time with you guys here, oh boy oh boy oh boy).
- $5 Patrons will still be getting the next page today, albeit in its super sketchy, pre-inked form. This is the same level of quality of previews of panels and artwork that I usually post here for you guys.
- EVERY Patron will be getting the same page, in the same format, tomorrow, like a normal update. (CONTENT ADVISORY: Gore I guess? Thistle gets Brent's bandages off and there's a closeup shot of the wound. So heads up.)
Sorry that updates this chapter have been extremely sporadic, to say the least, but I am viewing it as that last homestretch before the finish line that's harder than any other part of this process. In a few months the chapter will be over AND SO WILL BOOK 1. WOW.

Thanks, Renee! I wish I could make pages in two seconds just by looking at a piece of paper, much of the same way people believe it's done, but alas, the process is long and heartbreaking. I'm just happy that I get to share a lot of that process with you guys. :)

The more I see and understand how much effort goes into producing these pages, the more amazed I am that there are people who create webcomics available for free while working other jobs. I just know how exhausted I am when I get off work, and can't imagine sitting at a computer afterwords trying to tell a compelling story (and keep some semblance of a deadline). So thanks to you both for working on this despite the torrid waters known as "real life".

Haha! Yeah, most board tests are moved right into a demo reel or portfolio that are only shown to potential future clients in inquiries for board tests later. The NDA just means I can't go around announcing what projects a studio is working on, on the Internet or anything. Thanks, Sturz! I'll keep y'all updated.

You should still own the copyright of the images, but I guess the studio can copy the ideas from the storyboard to make their cartoon. Send them the link to βDotLβ and say βI draw this! Gimme the job!β But no problem with a break. Look forward to the next page when itβs ready. Good luck with the job.
