Oooh! Cool. I like how you moved "look who cares anyway" to partialy block Brent's face, it is like this one stinging sentence blocks out his otherwise loving personality in Thistle's memory. Basically negativitiy bias (of which poor Thistle has a lot) illustrated. And the darker blackdrop drives home the utter sadness/loneliness even more.

That's a good observation. The way I wrote it was intended to read as despairing. Sometimes I've just let the bad thoughts come and overwhelm me, and sink down into them, which isn't so much a relaxing thing so much as a sensation of "going limp" and surrendering yourself to whatever mindset that's gripping you, especially when its triggered by some evidence that proves the awful thoughts "right." I think Thistle displays that "locking up" you're describing a couple pages later, when she's lying in bed and the thoughts become more targeted and aggressive.

Beautiful work. My only quibble is that she looks relaxed and sad, while my personal experience of that state is a full-body rictus. That's not a statement about Thistle though, just a personal observation.

I hadn't thought it needed the darker background, but HOLY COW is right! It does make it better, both legibility-wise, but especially mood-wise. Love it!

I went back and reread the comic (because obviously :P), and I realised that the words “monster” and “beast” on the far left reflect the dialogue from the original page. Really clever! Also I think the shadow backdrop looks Amazing!

It's perfect now! With the text more spaced out, I feel like it represents the thoughts intruding even more, if that makes sense? Like they are hitting her in wave after wave, rather than just being tightly clustered around her.
