These would have been a variety of independent outposts near to the front lines, which were not formally part of the Union or Hierarchy but existed in locations that were potentially of strategic importance to one side or the other. On the Loroi side of the line, these systems were politically independent but were composed racially of known species from other areas (unlike the Umiak expansion into the Periphery which impacted new species unknown to the Union). Possibilities include: • Systems in and around former Tithric territory, with Tithric, Neridi or Lurs populations • Independent settlements in the Dinnan, with Fieras, Barsam or Nissek populations • Unaligned systems in the Maiad corridor (mostly Jilaad) • Some Arekka systems that had not previously been formally annexed

Awesome to see a new page from you Arioch, I had a quick question: you said earlier that the war had been used by both sides as an excuse to expand their territory, can you give us some lore as to how and why the Loroi have used this war as such? Got plenty of examples of the Umiak but not the Loroi.

I live in the tectonicly active Seattle Metro area. Foundations are typically a curtain wall which the house rests on top of.

I shall note that where I live it is, to my knowledge, not customary to have an accessible space under the house, much less one a homeowner could access with DIY equipment. It is, however, a country that has a somewhat active tectonic life. Which made reading your statement about being grumpy for "Being under your house all day" far more grim indeed, until I read the rest of the thread.

I did recently reread all the pages up to this one, and I have to say, they’re really well written and paced out. The characters thoroughly explore all options, it’s understandable for those who haven’t thought through space combat, and you can see how Alex contributes a tactical and strategic perspective to the situation. It’s great!

Yeah, that went about as well as could be expected by Alex... but you really can't expect a computer told to kill you not to comply without a reprogramming... and the Umiak have been 'programmed' for a long time to consume, pollute and discard ~ anything that stands in the way of that directive is eliminated.

It's somewhat by choice. Replacing all our galvanized pipe with modern. We are very lucky in that we have a a fairly spacious crawl that you can sit up in. Still doing it is not particularly fun.
