I don't have an ETA, there is a lot that needs to happen before it is done. Soooo.... any time between January 2026 and the release of D&D 6th edition :P

Elmer Perkins

ooooooo... what is the eta for the web app?

Chris Fatzer

Just curious if the 2024 sheet is ready?

Lars Hjortshøj Andersen

Any updates?

There will be separate versions of sheets, one for the 2014 rules and another for the 2024 rules. There won't be a switch inside the PDFs to change the rules.

Todd Smith

I am not a fan of 2024 D&D, That being said. There are some things about it I do like. I hope you will allow the sheets to choose between both editions.

It is no problem to use the transcription efforts of tools like 5eTools, either by using the exact same data structure or with a simple conversion tool. Using their structure unchanged will have the issue that both could go out of sync if they decide to change something, so a converter is probably better and in the long term impossible to avoid. The biggest issue, however, is that the content of 5eTools contains (almost) no information on automation. For example, a feat doesn't have separate attributes to tell a character sheet how to change a weapon entry. Code can't read the descriptive text, it needs explicit commands. Those things still need to be added, it is impossible to simply take digital content made for displaying text and use that as input for an automated character builder. Thus yes, the idea of making the schema compatible with that from 5eTools and/or to provide a converter between the two is a great idea, but don't expect it to immediately make all the 5eTools content available for use with automation.

Scott Miller

Would it be possible or even beneficial to lean on the json schema used by 5etools? This would allow you to benefit from the transcription efforts already made by that community, and make it much simpler for people to add homebrew and 3rd-party content to their sheets since so much is already available on 5etools.
