Something I’ve been wondering is whether U.K. laws are so different that what is legal WRT free speech here might indeed be lawsuit-worthy over there. As the BGG’s is a U.K. company (as I understand it), it’s possible they’re being basically taken advantage of by that VA lawyer, when a decent American attorney would refuse to take the case and advise BGG to drop it. The whole thing is so stupid it smacks of legal malpractice for that lawyer to encourage BGG in this way.

What are your thoughts that a Virginia law firm was chosen? It is well known that Depp sought defamation litigation in VA because it’s record in defamation cases. Did this precedence change with recent anti-SLAAP amendment that Ron mentioned? Thanks

It was drafted by Diallo K. Morris, Esq. of Morris, Currin & O’Keefe, PC. The law firm of three attorneys appears to regularly handle family law (divorce?) and traffic issues (speeding tickets, DUIs, etc). Ron Coleman has argued and won on the issue of free speech at the Supreme Court of the United States. The Dhillon Group where Ron works is one of the most prestigious law groups in the nation.

We're aware of the risks. However, to even get to lawfare, they would need to survive a motion to dismiss. It's their move but I think the community will support TPP if they decide to file a frivolous lawsuit.

We can never allow someone to scare a news organization into silence. The demand that John Trent, That Park Place and affiliated channels never mention BGG ever again was an astounding claim.

Follow the money is my first thought about law fair? Where , how are they funding this suit. I know one tactic is to drown your opponent in an effort to make them quit. (Wish we had laws that had losers paying for all cost). stay strong!
