The Acolyte Clearly Believes Lightsabers Run on D Batteries

If you watched the livestream, you know that Lorn was baffled by what we were describing (he is refusing to watch the show). As a result of detecting that Lucasfilm has no idea what they're doing, I thought it would be nice to give them a quick rundown on what exactly lightsabers are, how they work, and how the Acolyte clearly doesn't understand them:

These elegant weapons, often associated with the Jedi and Sith, have a rich and storied history within the Star Wars fictional canon. The earliest precursors to the modern lightsaber were known as "proto-sabers." These ancient weapons required a power pack, worn on the user's belt, which was connected to the hilt by a cable. Proto-sabers were cumbersome and less efficient than their successors, but they laid the groundwork for future developments.
The invention of the modern lightsaber is often attributed to the Jedi Order, although the Sith also played a significant role in its development. The transition from proto-sabers to lightsabers was made possible by advancements in technology, particularly the development of compact power cells and focusing crystals. These advancements allowed for the creation of a self-contained, hand-held weapon.
At the heart of every lightsaber is a kyber crystal, a rare and powerful mineral that focuses the energy of the weapon into a blade of pure plasma. Kyber crystals are attuned to the Force, and the process of finding and bonding with a crystal is a rite of passage for Jedi Padawans. The color of the crystal determines the color of the lightsaber blade, with blue and green being the most common among Jedi, while red is traditionally associated with the Sith, due to their practice of "bleeding" kyber crystals to bend them to their will.
Lightsaber hilts are highly individualized, reflecting the personality and preferences of their creators. Jedi and Sith alike invest significant time and effort into crafting their hilts, often incorporating unique features and designs. Some hilts are straight and simple, while others are ornate and complex, featuring elements like crossguards, curved grips, or double blades.
For the Jedi, the lightsaber is more than just a weapon; it is a symbol of their commitment to peace and justice. Jedi are trained extensively in lightsaber combat, mastering various forms and techniques to become proficient duelists. The lightsaber also serves as a tool for defense, allowing Jedi to deflect blaster bolts and other attacks.
The Sith, on the other hand, view the lightsaber as a means to assert their dominance and power. Sith lightsabers are often designed to intimidate and inflict maximum damage. The Sith's aggressive fighting style contrasts sharply with the Jedi's more defensive approach, emphasizing strength, speed, and brutality.
Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber
One of the most famous lightsabers in Star Wars history is the one constructed by Anakin Skywalker. This blue-bladed weapon was passed down to his son, Luke Skywalker, who used it in his training to become a Jedi. The lightsaber was later passed to Rey, symbolizing the continuity of the Jedi legacy.
Darth Vader's Lightsaber
After falling to the dark side, Anakin Skywalker, now Darth Vader, constructed a new lightsaber with a red blade. This weapon became a symbol of his transformation into a Sith Lord and was used to enforce the Emperor's will across the galaxy.
Luke Skywalker's Green Lightsaber
Following the loss of his father's lightsaber, Luke Skywalker built his own green-bladed lightsaber. This weapon represented his growth and maturity as a Jedi Knight. It played a crucial role in his confrontation with Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.
Kylo Ren's Crossguard Lightsaber
Kylo Ren, the dark side-wielding grandson of Anakin Skywalker, constructed a unique crossguard lightsaber. This unstable weapon features a primary blade and two smaller side blades, giving it a menacing appearance. Its design reflects Kylo Ren's volatile nature and inner conflict.
Introduced by the Sith Lord Darth Maul, the double-bladed lightsaber, or saberstaff, features two blades emitted from either end of a single hilt. This weapon allows for a highly aggressive and acrobatic fighting style, making it a formidable tool in combat.
Beyond the traditional single and double-bladed lightsabers, the Star Wars canon includes several unique variants. Lightwhips, as used by some dark side users, are flexible, whip-like energy weapons. Other variations include lightsaber pikes, shoto lightsabers (shorter blades), and the rare Darksaber, a black-bladed weapon with a unique design and significant historical importance to the Mandalorian culture.
Lightsabers are more than mere weapons in the Star Wars universe; they are symbols of the characters who wield them and the larger battle between light and dark. From their ancient origins to their varied designs and uses, lightsabers continue to captivate audiences and play a central role in the epic saga of Star Wars.
Or... in the case of the Acolyte, they are bug zappers and flashlights. But hey, what do I know?

Pro: i have had this thought for years and this seems like the discussion here to ask it. Episode 1: if George Lucas had keep the double blade a secret (not released any toys or commercials showing the reveal). Episode 1 would have been better received. Thoughts ? (Also open to the floor. ).

The explanation of the lightsaber failures is that the Sith had a vambrace and helmet made of Cortosis. A metal that will 'short out' a light saber. I do no know the physics behind this. Nor, do I know why such a powerful element was not used against a Jedi/Sith at any other point during the events of the prequels or clone wars. Apparently, it only existed until now in EU and maybe high republic comics.
