I just got reminded of a couple of episodes in RWBY Vol. 7. That two part episode where the protag group finds a town and it’s too quiet. (Basically, the second part is a horror movie episode with the Apathy Grimm being equivalent to ReDeads.)

Oh man...this is both intriguing and a bit daunting when you take this kind of thing and put it to text/writing. But I won't skimp on that kinda thing, I like painting pictures in people's minds

Adventure Time’s got a lot of really good examples of environmental storytelling, to the point several people figured out the post apocalyptic nature of the world before the show revealed it!
