Hearing the question Tanya sighed. She herself had been trying to figure out a way as well. She wasn’t worried about Rosalie doing anything more than annoying Bella because mates couldn’t hurt each other. It was Edward she was concerned about. The boy had always been a wild card. He also was spoiled by Carlisle and Esme who gave him everything he wanted and always sided with him. Using the fact that Bella obviously didn’t like Rosalie Tanya predicted Carlisle was going to back Edward’s claim on Bella. Tanya had no doubt Edward’s claim was false. He was just excited about finding someone who could block his gift. In his mind it would make perfect sense for a mind reader to be mated to a mental shield. Tanya would have thought so as well if she didn’t see the moment Rosalie made eye contact with Bella. Rosalie reacted exactly like a vampire should have when meeting their mate for the first time. Tanya was not looking forward to the many fights in the future because of Edward’s false claim.
“I honestly don’t think they will leave you alone.”Tanya told her.
Bella rubbed her forehead with her good hand.”How much danger am I in?”
“Rosalie will never hurt you. It goes against her very nature to even think of hurting you. Edward the boy who tried to claim you has no such limitations. That being said I don’t honestly know what he will do because of his believe that his claim on you is justified.”Tanya wished she had a definite answer for Bella.
“I’m not going to ask you anything pertaining to what you and the rest of your family are. I honestly don’t care. I just want to know how to protect myself because I know I can’t fight him off.”Bella knew Tanya and her family weren’t human.
Tanya was unsurprised that Bella knew they weren’t human.”I appreciate you not asking because we have laws about humans knowing. Laws that would result in your death if you were to find out.”
“I have really stepped into some shit haven’t I?”Bella really hated Rosalie for involving her in whatever it was Bella was now involved in.
Tanya gave Bella a sad smile.”If it means anything I am sorry that you are going through this.”
“The problem is I don’t know what I’m going through. If what you are saying about it going against Rosalie’s nature to hurt me and you and Irina doing all you can to get me to give Rosalie a chance it makes me think that I have some link to Rosalie. That her claim on me is actually valid amongst your species. I think it is a romantic link because of Rosalie trying to date me and mold me into her ideal partner but I’m confused because I really don’t like Rosalie and hate spending time with her. So how can we be linked if we don’t get along and are complete opposites?”Bella didn’t have any positive feelings for Rosalie and didn’t think that was going change any time soon.
“You are very smart. I now understand why you graduated from such a tough law school when you were so young.”Tanya was impressed that Bella worked everything out.
“I had already graduated from MIT at 12 and was working in the industry right after. Law school was my way of rebelling against my parents. So yes I am very smart and one of my hobbies is completing puzzles. Rosalie and her behavior presented me with a living puzzle.”Bella told her.
“Shit you are smarter than we thought. The only stuff we found online about you mentioned your law career.”Tanya was going to have to do a more in-depth search on Bella.
“My job was in the government. You wouldn’t have found anything about it. That’s besides the point. How can I be linked to Rosalie if I hate her. Does she have any feelings for me or is she just obsessed with the idea of what I could be?”Bella asked.
“Rosalie does have feelings for you. Genuine feelings. The problem is Rosalie has been alone a long time and in that time when she was waiting to find the person she was linked to she would dream of what they would be like. Rosalie is as you know stubborn and expects to get her own way all the time. That happens at home because she is bully who will retaliate if you don’t do what she says. Knowing that when she finally found you she had a vision of what you would be. When you didn’t turn out like she expected she fell back on trying to bully you into being the person she thought she wanted. She just needs to get a mental kick in the ass to make her see that you are exactly what she needs.”Tanya thought that Bella was perfect for Rosalie. She was someone that wouldn’t put up with Rosalie’s nonsense and make the vampire a better person.
Bella sighed.”I don’t know how to be around Rosalie if she doesn’t change. I believe all of you when you say that she isn’t that bad of a person. Especially after you telling me all that about her. I can understand her getting stuck on an idea when you have thought for the longtime it would bring you happiness. That however does not excuse her behavior. I won’t put up with the continued disrespect she shows me.”
“You shouldn’t have to. We have been trying to work with her on it but like I said she is stubborn.”Tanya was going to talk to Rosalie again about this conversion when she saw her again.
“How am I going to deal with Edward? Based on what has been said he seems to think that I’m his link as well but you said I’m not.”Bella knew she wasn’t linked to a man because she had never been attracted to men.
“You are definitely not his link. His claiming it is actually against the law and could lead to his death if our rulers found out. We don’t want that happening though because you would be forced to meet with the rulers who would determine if the claim is real or false. Let me tell you the last thing you as a human want is to get their attention.”Tanya did not want Bella anywhere near the kings.
“What will he do to prove I’m his link?”Bella asked.
“I don’t know. Which is why I’m so angry at Rosalie. If she got over herself you would have someone with you to protect you because I wouldn’t put it past Edward to try and kidnap you to keep you away from Rosalie.”Tanya thought it was exactly something the boy would do.
“That brings off back to the question how do I keep myself safe?”Bella needed to know how to hurt Edward.
“The only real way to keep you safe is to kill him. That wouldn’t work though because if you killed him his father would probably kill you or report you to the rulers and they would kill you. Other than that you can keep Rosalie close.”Tanya cut Bella off before she could object.”I know you don’t like her but she is the only being on earth that can protect you. I would offer my own help but I’m not capable. Edward would get passed me. Rosalie though her whole purpose is to keep you safe. She wouldn’t be defeated by Edward.”
“So what I’m just supposed to have her follow me 24/7. Doesn’t she have a life that would keep her from doing that?”Bella really didn’t want Rosalie tagging along while she went about her day but she also could tell that Edward was dangerous. Bella never felt unsafe around Rosalie. She also believed Tanya that Rosalie would keep her safe. The older woman had been as honest as she could be during their conversation.
“Rosalie doesn’t have anything going on right and would jump at the chance to spend so much time with you. I will warn you that her attitude won’t change overnight so you would have to deal with her being combative.”Tanya knew that if they spent time together Rosalie would eventually change her ways.
“Will you give me Rosalie’s number?”Bella figured if Rosalie got out of hand she could just give her the silent treatment.
Tanya fumbled with her phone then handed it to Bella.”I want to say you won’t regret this but I honestly think you will more than once.”
“I already regret it.”Bella wasn’t sure this was a good idea but before she could stop herself she had put in Rosalie’s number in her own phone and hit dial. The phone was picked up on the fourth ring.
“Hello.”Rosalie’s voice came over the line.
“Hello Rosalie it’s Bella.”Bella thought she heard a commotion in the background but couldn’t make out what it was.
“Bella are you alright?”Rosalie’s voice was laced with concern.
“I haven’t made it to the hospital yet. That isn’t why I’m calling.”Bella took a deep a breath for strength.
“Why are you calling then? Did you miss me?”Rosalie asked.
Bella stopped herself from telling Rosalie no she did not miss when she heard the hopefulness in Rosalie’s voice. She hadn’t heard Rosalie express such yearning towards her before.”I’m calling because after speaking to Tanya I am concerned for my safety in regards to Edward.”
“That bastard won’t touch you.”Rosalie growled out.
“I don’t want him to even have the opportunity. That being the case I was wondering if you would be willing to shadow me and protect me form him. If you have the time to spend with me that is.”Bella didn’t want force Rosalie.
“Of course I’ll do it. I can bring my stuff to your house and stay with you and come to your job during the day. I won’t leave you alone for a second.”Rosalie voice was now laced with excitement.
“I am asking you to do this but know that if you irritate me I will make you leave.”Bella threatened.
“I will make sure I don’t irritate you then.”Rosalie promised.
“Good.”Bella would have to keep reminding herself that Rosalie was her link and that the blond woman needed to adapt with finding out that her link wasn’t the person she thought she would be.
“Do you want me to drive up and meet you at the hospital?”Rosalie asked.
“If you could. Then I can just ride with you to my apartment.”Bella would feel better having Rosalie close.
“Then I will go pack. Do you need me to bring anything? I don’t mind stopping.”Rosalie offered.
“I’m fine. I stocked up for the weekend this afternoon.”Bella had done it to prepare for staying in all weekend.
“Alright then I will see you soon and Bella thank you for giving me this chance.”Rosalie told her.
“You’re welcome.”Bella disconnected the call and turned her attention to Tanya.”Rosalie sounded really excited.”
“You’re hurt. Her instincts must be going haywire because she is away from you. As a matter of fact I bet the only reason she isn’t already on her way to the hospital is because she was dealing with Edward’s claim.”Tanya was not looking forward to having to deal with Edward’s drama when she got back to the Cullens. As coven leader she was obligated to call him out for the false claim. She didn’t think it would change his mind but she wanted it known that her coven did not support his claim.
“What will be done with him if he isn’t turned in for breaking the law?”Bella hoped something that would keep him away from her.
“The problem is his father will support him. That’s the doctor you met Carlisle. Carlisle loves Edward more than any of his other children. He even loves him more than his own link. Due to that Carlisle goes along with everything Edward says. Even if the rest of the family disagrees Carlisle puts his support behind Edward. In this instance he will use the fact that Edward chose you and that you dislike Rosalie as proof that you are Edward’s link. Even with the fact that myself and Irina witnessed what happened to Rosalie the first time she saw you won’t change his mind. That being the case he will likely try to forbid Rosalie from seeing you or contacting you at all. He will of course encourage Edward to pursue you regardless of all of our objections.”Tanya expected Carlisle to have already forbid Rosalie from contacting Bella.
“What’s so great about Edward?”Bella asked.
“Nothing really. Carlisle was alone for a very long time. He didn’t speak to many people and traveled and lived by himself. When he found Edward he was the first companion Carlisle had ever had. It formed a kind of weird bond between the pair. Carlisle once told me that he thought god sent Edward to him as a reward for living the life he lived. Carlisle is deeply religious so that belief makes him think that Edward can do no wrong because he has god’s favor.”Tanya explained.
“What a bunch of horse shit!”Bella never heard of anything so stupid.
Tanya chuckled.”We all think so too. Carlisle has blinders on with Edward. The boy lies about everything and tries manipulate everyone around him. He has even been known to blackmail people and even with the proof in front of his face Carlisle makes excuses for him.”
“Would Carlisle do something to make sure Rosalie doesn’t contact me or meet up with me?”Bella wanted to know so she could start planning how to rescue Rosalie.
“He would likely try but the people who are at their home right now would prevent anything from happening.”Tanya didn’t have to be there to know that her family and the other Cullen children would stop Carlisle from targeting Rosalie.
“They won’t show up at my home or my office will they?”Bella needed to prepare if they would.
Tanya thought about it for a minute.”I want to say no but it’s more likely then not they will show up to speak to you in a place that Rosalie can’t physically keep them away. My advice is if they show up to make sure there are a lot of people around you. If you’re at home don’t open your door. Let Rosalie handle it.”
“I don’t mind letting Rosalie deal with them at all. As for when I’m outside my apartment my office shares a building and reception area with three other businesses that are always busy. The waiting room never has less than twenty people in it. If they show up at my work I will just meet them there and not in my personal office.”Bella wouldn’t have a problem following Tanya’s advice.
“I thought your practice was rather large. Why do you share a building with other people?”Tanya had assumed based on the articles she read about Bella that her law practice was very successful.
“My law practice consists of me and my secretary. Sometimes I let my secretary’s daughter and grandchildren help with things when they need some extra money but usually it’s just the two of us.”Bella preferred it that way.
“Have you always worked alone?”Tanya asked.
Bella nodded.”I opened the practice when I 18 after I decided where I wanted live and practice law. Once I got here I rented the apartment I’m still living in and rented the space I still currently practice law out of. I got that space because I wasn’t sure I would actually succeed on my own and didn’t want to waste my savings on something bigger. I just stayed there because I can’t really see the need to move the practice. Plus my secretary lives three buildings down and she likes to walk to work because there is a cafe that sells her favorite breakfast food. I’m not heartless enough to take that away from her.”
“What do you do for fun?”Tanya was getting the impression that Bella didn’t like change very much.
“I have some hobbies that I spend time doing. If I feel like being around people I’ll go out to get drink or eat at a restaurant. My life is simple and I like it that way.”Bella liked living a calm drama free life.”Of course since Rosalie came crashing into my life with her bad pick up lines my life is in no simple anymore.”
“You’re right about that.”Tanya predicted that Bella’s life would never be simple again.
“So what about you? What you do for a living? When I asked Irina I got the impression that she broke the law a lot.”Bella was sure that Tanya, Rosalie and both their families were involved with illegal activities.
“It’s Kate who breaks the law a lot. As for me and Irina we own a few businesses and play the stock market. We have done pretty well for ourselves over the years and haven’t had to get day jobs.”Tanya was basically telling the truth.
“I have a feeling if Kate needs a lawyer for anything I’m going to be contacted.”Bella said.
“I want to promise she won’t but Kate thinks you’re interesting so you will be the first person she reaches out to if she had legal trouble.”Tanya actually thought it would be nice to have a practicing lawyer on call in case of emergencies that knew they weren’t human. If would make it easier to explain the different situations the family found themselves in. Usually they just cut their losses if there as legal trouble because they couldn’t trust a lawyer to not ask questions they couldn’t answer.
“I kind of figured that she thought I was interesting based on her questions and comments.”Bella had been pestered with Kate’s random questions the entire way to the hospital and in the hospital room.
“Kate is an overgrown child. Don’t take offense to anything she says or does. She can’t help herself.”Tanya told her.
“I’m not worried about it because Kate didn’t come across as threatening or like someone who would purposely hurt me.”Bella got a good vibe off of Kate.
“She would only hurt someone who deserved it. Even when she is playing around she doesn’t really hurt people badly.”Tanya knew if Kate wanted to she could a lot of damage with her gift but she only use it to the degree of annoying people with it.
“I bet she hurts Edward all the time.”Bella figured if he was bad as Tanya made him out to be Kate targeted him.
“He is one of her main victims but she can’t go too far with him because Carlisle would get upset and report her to our rulers.”Tanya knew without a doubt Carlisle would run to the kings if Edward was hurt badly.
“I can honestly say I hate Carlisle and Edward more than I hate Rosalie. As matter of fact Rosalie is beginning to look like a very good prospect since meeting both men.”Bella wanted nothing to do with Carlisle and Edward based on what Tanya told her about them. Bella was preparing herself for having a confrontation with both of them because she took from this conversation that Edward always got what he wanted with Carlisle’s help. It was just too bad for Edward Bella wasn’t something he could have.
“That’s some progress.”Tanya thought maybe having a common enemy would give Bella and Rosalie something to build a positive relationship off of. It hopefully would strengthen their bond.
“I think so too.”Bella agreed.
“We are coming up on the hospital. I’m going to drop you off and make sure you get inside before I go park. Stay close to other people incase Edward and Carlisle show up. I’ll be with you in a few minutes.”Tanya was going to hurry because she didn’t trust the two men not to make a move to prevent Rosalie from getting to Bella.
“I will put myself with the largest group of people I can find.”Bella wasn’t going to take any chances.
Tanya stopped the car in front of the doors to the emergency room.”Don’t check in until I join you so we don’t get separated.”
“Got it.”Bella said before getting out of the car and shutting the door. She hurried into the building and immediately walked over to where a group of people were standing in line for a drink cart in the waiting area. There were at least two dozen people waiting in line or standing around fixing their drinks and talking. Bella put herself out of sight of the entrance so no one would see her when they walked in but she would see them. Looking at her hand Bella wondered when it stopped hurting. It probably wasn’t a good sign that it did. It was very swollen and a rainbow of different colors. Bella prayed that all that would need to be done was putting a cast on it and she didn’t fuck it up more during the time she broke it until she arrived at this hospital. The last thing she wanted was to happen was her that she needed surgery. Bella didn’t have time for surgery and recovering from surgery. She was so slammed at work she took some home with her to do over the weekend. Seeing Tanya walk through the door Bella sighed. She had no clue how her life turned out like this and cursed whichever god was responsible for putting her in this situation.

I think if it needs to be pointed out to Carlisle and Edward…. Bella should emphatically say that, although Rosalie gets on her nerves, Bella is still very sexually attracted to Rosalie. And she is NOT attracted to Edward AT ALL. Like..super gay. I hope Rosalie gets her shit together so that she can have her happy beginning with Bella. Also, I’d love for Kate to zap Edward a couple hundred times. I can see Bella getting annoyingly endeared by Rosalie… enemies to lovers with flare!
