Anyone familiar with the case of George Stinney? He was wrongfully convicted of murder and executed in 1944. His conviction was vacated 70 YEARS later! O & he was only 14 at the time of his alleged crime(s). Heartbreaking case😭

The the insane thing is hangings were spectator sports with merch and everything because the condemned had usually earned celebriety status. In London it ended up botching the attempted escape of Jack Sheppard who planned to fake his death and escape after being revived but the crowd rushed his corpse thinking his friends were doctors taking his body for a cadevar which was common and they were too late to revive him. Dickens in his early writing often talks about being horrified at witnessing an execution for the first time
