It might be the lobotomy.

You guys seem to be smiling a lot more. Must be a lack of stress or hopes for a new adventure. I'm excited for you.

They get enough of my time and energy!

You clearly have a supportive family Wes, and they should come pretty close to first. The quarter million of us subscribed will consume everything and anything you produce, and we will wait patiently, so make sure you make time for your wife and son. We’ll be here when you get back. With my best regards.

Hmm, maybe another incentive to team up with a dealer, aquire trade-ins during the summer, fix or part out in the winter (another viable side hussle for a youtube channel, I guess). Dunno, maybe over here it' s because of strict state inspections but there seems to be no seasonality to it besides folks wanting their car fixed for summer holidays. But then there's winter holidays also.
Watch Wes Work
Every shop here is busy, though that's pretty normal for summer. Winter is always slow.
Watch Wes Work
Hopefully it's the best choice.
Watch Wes Work
Thank you!
Watch Wes Work
I'll try!
Watch Wes Work
I hope to bring it to you.

I have infinite ideas. I just don't have infinite time!

Shoots2001 To your comment regarding CEE, Inheritance Machining offers excellent content in the mill / lathe arena as well; as with Wes, he’s schooled me in a more than a few things. There is a similar multi-generational aspect as well, which I really appreciate as “an older American”.
Anditainment
I don't know about that. A quick google says the average car age in the states is 12.5 years and in germany it's 10. I personally don't buy cars which are younger than 20 years but thats bc it's a hobby. The cost of repair hours just made a massive hike, now topping out around 180€/h + VA in the most expensive city. I have no idea where this is going, stuff just seems to become expensive. On the plus side, every shop I know is busy af. And I guess with more Electro and Hybrid, there's a bunch of work coming up which not everybody is willing to take.
Rob Palfreman
Glad you're continuing on Youtube, my wife and I love your content.
Jason Harner
I see that Goldwing and I await patiently a motorcycle video. Also, you're a full-time youtuber now which I think means you have to wheelie it.
Sam Ellison
Looking forward to more great content.
Sam Ellison
Watch Wes go.
Jay VanLanduyt
Wes, for some odd reason today, I re-watched the video when you had them mud jack your shop floor, and you did the landscaping on the outside. You said something that I think was kinda prophetic, and I don't think you meant it to be. Paraphrasing, it was, "I don't know what the YouTube algorithm is going to do with a channel that goes from rebuilding the head of a milling machine to this, but, anyway....." You then said something about having a bunch of ideas for videos, but didn't know how you'd find the time for them. Well, I think you'll find a bunch of us weirdos enjoying the constant variety. Also, if you think about changing the patreon levels, I'd probably do more than $5/month. The enterainment value is there for me.

Europeans seem more willing to fix things. Here they would just trade it in.

He inherited his guy.
Watch Wes Work
I would have to have it to sell. We've been too busy to even order more stock.
Watch Wes Work
It's a series of tubes.
Watch Wes Work
Let's hope it works out.
Watch Wes Work
Yes. I just need to learn how to use it.
Watch Wes Work
I do appreciate it!
Watch Wes Work
I picked it up from a guy moving out of the state.

I've been here before. It's not fun.

Glad you're taking care of yourself. Keep up the great content.
Jamie Pilkey
Hey Wes, glad to see you’re going all in on the channel, it’s always a joy to watch your videos. Excited to follow you along!
Darran
Good luck with going full YouTube Wes. You kind of looked like a weight had been taken off your shoulders when you said it. Burning the candle at both ends never did anyone any good so take care of yourself first and foremost. Will we get to see the laser engraver on the other channel?
Curtis Roberts
I'm excited for your new adventure Wes. I've been self employed a couple times myself and know how much energy goes into it. I wish you great success in your future endeavors. I've wanted to support you here for some time but have to distribute my limited resources carefully. Now is the right time to help you achieve your goals.
Arnold Boyd
You always put out great videos Wes. Keep it up we love watching you work.
James Riordan
Well said Wes
John Hubbard
Agreed. Karl has all the skills. He keeps the lights on. lol.

Great indeed

“Karl” at CEE does a good job when Kurtis isn’t making a mess

Wait…does this bring a certain Florida machinist to mind ? No, couldn’t be.

Nice laser table you have and kind of jealous I don't have one. Being a laser tech by trade I started watching your videos during the W.W.W. machinery days. It's good to see channel with positive vibes and great content.
David Yates
Nice to see the white knuckle towing company again, suitably attired too - though I suspect the flipflops are contraindicated on a machine like that. I wish you the best of luck with the new direction, either way you're a smart guy so you'll figure it out.

Best of luck, Wes. Even if it doesn't work out you won't regret it. Burnout isn't to be messed with. I've known a couple guys now that were incredibly hard working and had stamina like Boxer who woke up one day and could't get out of bed - for one it took six months before they could take a part time job, the other hasn't been able to hold down a job since then. No crystal ball to say if your stress would have metastasized like that but good that you're getting in front of it.
Tom Hollowell
I also love that you don’t push “Merch” every 30 seconds. I do not mind an occasional Merch mention and do not mind the occasional sponsor, but sometimes it is too much on other channels.
Tom Hollowell
Hire some extremely old guy like Morske. But I am not sure he is actually an employee :-)

I feel you, funnily enough, I'm also at a position where I should start a company and I'm not doing it bc of the hassle. Maybe some kind of Partnership, like silent partner or a one off payment? Do you know diagnose dan? I don't know if he's employed or whatever but his setup seems pretty neat: He gets all the tricky cases from his shop (which is also a dealership and a bosch service) and other shops and brings in the customers via his channel. Dunno though if that would work out in the countryside, he is in a pretty densely populated area.

Good one Wes. I love to watch old equipment kept in running condition. They made them better back then. Simple machines . Hope everything works out for you and your family. I like your variety of equipment that comes in your door. Great skills.

This is happening all the time with new auto steer tractors. The driver falls asleep and ends up in the neighbor's field!

He's doing some big stuff.

No on can hire help currently.
Watch Wes Work
I've had employees before and it doesn't work, at least not for me. 1 or 2 employees actually more work. You'd have to get to 5 or 6 to make it pay off.

Oh, and that Model B with a cultivator is kicking up memories. Was some film strip back in Elementary School (possibly in IL--military folk move a lot). Johnny the farm boy was being lazy and inattentive, and did not pay attention to which field he was meant to go hoe with the tractor, so, he plowed the Model B into 5' tall corn--Johnny burst into tears and learns his lesson to listen carefully to his father and give up his skylarking & goldbricking ways. :)

As someone who started, then closed a small business, I have a ton of understanding on the issue. The child analogy is apt--but, it always felt more like an Animal Hospital to me--you had all these wonderful, unique, horrible, awful, glorious, magical [things] brought into your life, that you had to care fore like they were your own, then give them back/away to maybe never be seen again. The work was mute, but the owners were not (except when hugely important). It's a task. An all-day, every-day, task. I'm happy to have been able to see the small slice you have shared with us so far, and look forward whatever more comes our way.

The OSHA-approved safety shoes Mrs Wes is wearing is probably like +5 to her Armor Class :)
Tom Hollowell
I had a doctor do a similar thing. He became a concierge doctor where you paid him an annual fee to be your doctor and limited the number of clients. I was young enough at that time to not use his service.
John Hubbard
Wes, I hope you figure out your work/life balance. If it happens to include spinning down your shop business and focusing more on videos, I'm sure we will all be here to watch them. Hopefully you can live off of the YT and Patreon proceeds. I would love to see more shop machine content as well. I've found Cutting Edge Engineering Australia to do some similar stuff that I'm enjoying.
Tom Hollowell
Yes, bump a curb hard enough to cause your wheel to turn and it will definitely take out your hand. Had one in my first vehicle, a clapped out 1966 Chevy pickup. Made driving much easier.
John Hubbard
It's called an emulsion tube. I believe it helps atomize the fuel.
Graeme Zimmer
I loved seeing the old John Deer up close. Thanks for showing us Wes.

Ayy up Wes and Mrs Wes,glad to see you are busy and I love watching your post on patron and YouTube better than watching English tv with the wife. But please do what’s best for you and the family. And please if the Mrs is helping you out in the garage buy her some steel toe capped flip flops lol.Can you not employ some one to help you?

Why not hire somebody or partner up? Your dad probably wants to retire someday, combined you got a bunch of customers, a solid reputation for decades and the reach/advertisement of that and the youtube channel. The amount of this "capital" is difficult to measure but I wouldn't just throw it away. I understand that it seems much easier to just let go of youtube or the business but I guess the smart choice would be to farm out the boring bruntwork to free up time for the interesting things. You don't have to split a tractor yourself to generate content, you just need a guy/gal who is comfortable with being timelapsed. See for example carwizard's channel. Also, there might be an opportunity to produce stuff in house and sell it to viewers, like Wes'es Gasket Laser Cutter. You need the business to "find" Problems you products can solve and the reach of a channel to sell them. See for example fireball tools. And last but not least: Maybe just shut the shop down for a month or so to catch a breather. I guess that's something pretty uncommon in the US but over here it's a pretty normal thing and everybody copes with it just fine.
Chris Freemesser
My mechanic is the same way...great guy who does a top notch job but he's so overloaded with work that he's limited things to his existing customer base, no walk-ins, answering machine only when you call, everything needs an appointment. Maybe limit your shop to a specific group of customers so you have a manageable flow of jobs coming in?
Sam Colt
Always enjoy your videos. Great content and informative as well as your sense of humor. As to your decision you need to do what is best for you and your family. I know you will be successful.
Wouter Visee
Yeah but I don't recognize the part, all I know about carburetors is that they have nozzles that work through the venturi effect, and they can get clogged
Rich
Wes, I’m really happy you’ve taken the time to think about what YOU want to do and how to put yourself in position to get there. Sticking to a job that is joyless is fine when you’re starting out, but once you have viable options, it’s best for you (and your family) to choose the one that makes you _want_ to get to it every day.

I have enough content to make one video a week until the end of the year. Ideas are not an issue for me. Execution is the limiting factor.

Just general corrosion.

We'll see. No platform has ever lasted that long.

I've got enough videos planned to finish out the year.

I hope so too!

Glad you mentioned they sound like a bag of hammers. I thought some had put 3 lbs of ball bearings in the oil pan, A few years is all relative, being 71 I can say my definition has changed from what it was in the past. Best of luck in whatever you do and I'll watch your videos as long as you make them
Tom Hollowell
My dad used to call the wheel spinner on a car a necker's knob. Because with them you did not have to use two hands to drive those old non-power steering cars.
Rick Budrow
The hammer you use at around the 7 minute mark was made at a place I used to work at years ago I had to do a double take a hammer made in Maine found itself on your channel pretty cool
Peter Facey
I'm wondering where you'll get the material for videos if you close the garage business. On the other hand your family seems to have that wood full of junk. The other problem is where will the customers go when the only competent motor engineer for miles is no longer working?
Wouter Visee
Wow, I'm excited for where the channel will go then! Also nice macro shots! 14:18 apparently it doesn't look too good - what exactly are we looking at?
Martin thomsen
few years = 10 or more years
Sue Rollinson
Great show! I'll watch WWW whatever you do.

Excited for the future!

I really wish that your choice is the right one, am excited to see what‘s coming and happy to see more videos maybe :) Thanks for all the work and good luck! Btw. liking the spruced up editing so far ;)
