It seems to be getting better at a scary pace.

This was so worth the small contribution - thank you!

Really interesting. Especially the evaluation of what AI can and can't help with at the current state of the art. Still a long way to go, but we are on the journey, for better of worse. Keep 'em comin' Wes. Both the wife and I look forward to your stuff.

The discerning are a minority, sadly, so "the system" soldiers on the backs of 7/8 the population. That said, ChatGPT will do annoying things, like write broad appeal ad copy, far better than the literate can.

Right. They just moved the goal post closer.

I can't see how the ad supported model is sustainable. I guess I'm not enough of a consumer to get it.

Unfortunately, there's no good solution. The YouTube member system highlights member comments, but they are not going to do that for an outside service.

If you look up the Gartner Hype Cycle, AI is right at the peak of inflated expectations IMO. It'll take a good few years to make it something genuinely useful rather than a toy or marketing vehicle. ChatGPT is not AI, it's a language model and as such is a useful tool with limitations as you described Wes.

Cool video; nicely topical. Far too many unwilling to engage their own abilities to ratiocinate. So, a predictive text engine seems "smart." As to "google" searching, sadly, a person needs a plethora of other browsers, a number of ad filters, and aggressive cookie management to not get "filtered" results that omit things that might be significant for being non-obvious. "We" are the product, and dumping ads upon us, even at a 1:100,000 "hit rate" is enough to more than pay for the thing.

Great video. A problem with this Patreon thing is that viewer comments get split between youtube and patreon. I'm thinking that the answer is for patrons to view the videos on youtube, and comment there rather than here. Although that makes it less of an exclusive club.

As a hobby/DIY wrench turner who only works on my own broken junk, this may actually prove kinda useful when I’m faced with an issue I don’t even know how to begin diagnosing.

I've been working in IT for over 35 years now and lots of new tech has come and gone in that time. Some of it was great, some of it was garbage. AI is the first tech in all of that time that actually scares me. People are trampling all over each other to implement it while AI experts who have spent their entire careers working on this are pleading for people to stop. This isn't going to end well. As for the Internet in general not all of it is a dumpster fire...there are still plenty of options out there in terms of software, browser add-ons, privacy-respecting sites, etc. that you can use that eliminates 95% of the garbage.

Wes, you have the analysis of AI correct. I watch all the fear mongers say it’s dangerous. At best it’s a natural language search engine. The only real danger is people who trust it without questioning it!

Yeah, the size of the data set is the key. I asked it some questions (on an obscure subject) which I am an expert on, and the answers were ludicrous, eg "Connect to the center terminal" on a device with only two terminals. Thanks for an interesting video, Wes

Great video Wes! If humans are stuck combing though sponsored links, how long will it be before AI spits out the “sponsored” response? As long as there is bias, you will never be able to exclusively rely on one source of information.
