I didn't even get into the "custom" wiring...
John Heimerl
Consider it a victory that it only took two times to get it in “good nick”. That and you managed to resist commenting on the sideways speedo and dead tach! LOL
Watch Wes Work
I'll just assume that's good.
James Riordan
Dead chuffed here, mate

You can't help everyone!

By Jove, a British sports car in the colonies! The Spitfire will always remind me of a friend I had in school, whose dad was restoring a similar example for him on the understanding that he achieved good grades in his GCSE exams (a basic certification taken by 16 year olds here). As he was what we would call a fartaround, he totally failed everything so his dad promptly sold the car from underneath him. It was pretty funny as an onlooker...

Fear not, I did find a mouse house under the master cylinder!
CapnMac82
Given that car is obviously garaged, and garaged well, Max is probably confused as to why it has no mouse smell.

Loved that, 2 years older than me so definitely a classic😄, great job with the pronunciations, and one just one more, indicator instead of turnsignal over here👍🇮🇪

...and no electrical problems ! drink warm beer from a Lucas refrigerator. :-)

You missed a grand (and very) old British expression--probably for the better--in that the predecessor to "Keep a stiff upper lip" used to be "Keep a stiff pecker up." The term pecker meaning the lips that rendered a peck on the cheek having fallen by the wayside in the mid 20th century.

Bollocks! (When you found you already had the 5/16 - 24 helicoil )

Keeps things interesting!

Great video. Really enjoy it when you have opportunities to work on things outside the norm, especially older stuff. Nice work on the fix, and the test drive was a hoot 👍
Joe Harris
Wes, Great Vid!!

I'd like to see how he got in and out of the thing. I basically just fall out...
Watch Wes Work
I hope so. The current trajectory is not sustainable.
Watch Wes Work
You never know. I've had people in smaller niches watch my channel.
Watch Wes Work
None of that thanks!

That's what Caterpillar does. Inserts from the factory.
Watch Wes Work
Interesting. I wonder how that happened.

He could have parked next to an old Harley Davidson and no one would have noticed!

Reminds me of my Dad who insisted on having an MG - he was 6'6". He was an Army officer, he always swore (a lot) when he forgot to take his hat off before getting in and it would end up in a puddle in the road!.
Chris Freemesser
Great job Wes...sorry....Cracking job Governor! :D There's definitely something to be said for the simplicity of older cars though, and I think it's an idea that's starting to catch on with more and more people...

Nicely done sir! If you find an engineer willing to talk about gasket technology that would be an awesome WWW episode. I've noticed the use of RTV more frequently on modern VW/Audi engines and even small engines like Hondas. VWs use Elring dirko in various forms which I believe is pretty equivalent to HondaBond or permatex grey like you used here. Good stuff but like you said it is all about surface prep and making sure you follow cure instructions etc.

Great video Wes! My father chucked when you revealed the puddle of oil underneath the Spitfire. He bought a XK150 Jaguar when he was in the Air Force. During that time, (late 1950's) British cars were notorious for having oil leaks. They leaked so badly that the Air Force base commander banned all British cars from parking on base. Dad had to sell the car since he lived on base.

The old Land Rover 3.5 litre aluminium V8 engine uses UNC threads... Ah, but it was originally a Buick.

Great video! Thanks

Yes most were 260 CID with the mark II having 289's. Mine had a 302 transplant out of a 68 Cougar with 4V heads and a C4 auto.
Eric Ranshaw
Aero engines do use fine threads into aluminium, but they have thread inserts (Helicoils) from new. Car manufacturers just tried to save money - again!!

Best way to find something is to buy a new one.
Watch Wes Work
Is that the one with the Ford V8?
Watch Wes Work
And a "cuppa".

They could have found a way.

Just a little.

Same build as you Wes and agree, we are not meant to fit in old British cars.

“Son of a …” rings perfectly for me in my shop! I appreciate your sense of humour and it keeps me coming back.

That almost makes me miss the Sunbeam Tiger I used to own.

British Leyland was going to go into the computer business, but abandoned the idea when they couldn't figure out how to make them leak oil.
Jeff Chandler
Looks like you got a little steamed when you had to do it twice! Thank you for another cracking good video

It's like the automotive equivalent of a Piper Cub, the safest airplane ever made. Both will just barely kill you.

Like Mater said in Cars2, "if their ain't no oil under 'em there ain't no oil in 'em."
