Stepping has a long history in Black communities, especially in HBCUs aka Historically Black Colleges. It's often associated with Black fraternities and sororities but in predominantly Black high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools there might be a step team or a dance team that does stepping.

Gregory character feels neurodivergent to me bc of the way he wears the same thing, sticks to a routine stringently, is so literal & too many different textures together is just chaos in his mind. Also it was adorable how he agreed immediately to pizza with Janine even though we spent all episode discussing how much he hates it.

A lot of schools don’t have step teams, so it makes sense that y’all didn’t know much about it. When I was in high school we only had one for two out of my four years. I joined for one year and was too busy the next year. It was fun. You mix both step and dancing and you have a special stroll to the stage and a stroll off the stage.
