@Briana J Same! That was my reaction too! Like Harper is speaking the truth. Her reason for not being able to sleep is so valid. Just as you had mentioned, people of color, women, the LGBTQ+ community and so many more live in fear and are still fighting for their lives and rights around the world and even in this country to this day. Like anyone who is experiencing this or even just AWARE of this would find the world depressing as hell. And honestly, Daphne and Cameron were literally screaming white privilege. Like they don’t care enough to even vote, which is a fundamental right, because they don't have anything to fear or fight for. That right there is white privilege. And you're right this show was meant to be heavy and was meant to have conversations like this in it. It's literally social satire. And that’s what makes it even more of an amazing show.

That's a fair assessment, class privilege definitely plays a part but I don't want to downplay the impact of race. Even people of color who are privileged financially know about racism and xenophobia, people aren't really "free" from that. They might act like they are to keep up appearances but as someone who has worked with fashion and entertainment industry people who are part of that world, I know for a fact they don't.

Ngl I thought that the money has isolated Daphne and Cameron from current affairs, Harper and Ethan have only recently entered this new world where people don't remember if they've voted cause at the end of the day the outcome won't make the slightest difference to their lives. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic but I have very little doubt that if H&E had grown up in their current tax bracket they'd be just like D&C. Also even though I agree with everything Harper said I'd find her draining, being around people who are extremely positive or negative is exhausting.

Also just so y'all are aware Aubrey Plaza is half- Puerto Rican of Taino ancestry and Will Sharpe (the actor who plays Ethan) is half-Japanese. Given what has happened to Latino immigrants, Puerto Rico, and Asian Americans over the past few years offers insight on why Harper and Ethan made a big deal about how uninformed Daphne and Cameron are.

@Nithya like when they were talking about the world burning and they were like "I hate people like that." I was like woah... because in 2020-2022 I was so terrified about certain things as a Black bisexual woman. Even now with so much happening to women, the LGBTQ+ community, and POC. We are in scary times and being informed is the bare minimum in my opinion. She was laying it on heavy because that's just how The White Lotus is but she was still 100% right. Her being Puerto Rican and Ethan being Asian also makes Cameron and Daphne's dismissal of the news even more tasteless.

I know right! I was surprised because I honestly thought they would like Harper. I know at the beginning she came off rude but after the scene where they were all talking at the outdoor tables, I started to like her! She is so relatable and so real. I think the main takeaway from that scene was to show what kind of people they are. Daphne and Cameron would rather not worry about what’s happening in the world around them because it does not affect them while Ethan and Harper are the stark contrast of that.

i hope we can get y'all to watch ted lasso on the channel at some point! i recently watched the whole series and caught up to season 3 and it's one of my new favorite shows. it'd be so fun to watch with y'all, it's a great time

I totally get Harper’s annoyance at being on a trip with people she doesn’t like but you can’t go your whole life in a bubble only interacting with like minded people. And I do not like how she bosses Ethan around either. As a character though, she’s great to watch.

Aubrey Plaza as Harper was my favorite this season lol she was so relatable. I liked her character and the prostitute Lucia. The guy who plays Dominic is Michael Imperioli, he was in The Sopranos.
