It's not common here in the US but loaches are actually small eel-like freshwater fish. Loach soup is a traditional Korean dish and it is known to be very healthy. When I first watched this drama, I was very surprised too!

I disagree that Hee-do in the present is like her mom in the past or very different from past Hee-Do. We see mother Hee-Do trying to tell her daughter that it’s important to persist with her dancing that she enjoys and don’t give up just because it can get hard. We see young Hee-Do persist with her fencing even when it was hard and her mom told her to quit.
