Great reaction as always! The original Wizard of Oz movie was based on the book and in the original version, the Wicked Witch was really the bad guy. This is the direct film adaption of the broadway musical which was based on a different book series by Gregory Maguire (not the same author as the original Wizard of Oz). Gregory Maguire was inspired by the original book as well the rise of dictatorships around WWII. The books are much darker. When they adapted it to the stage they definitely cut out the darkest parts but the author wouldn’t sign off unless they kept in the central plot of the wizard being a dictator and the use of propaganda to garner power. Part 2 will go through basically the entire wizard of oz movie from this perspective so highly recommend watching the original movie first 😊

Yeah glinda was never gonna go with her it’s obvious. She’s the type of person to let bad things happen just to keep her social standing even when she knows those things are bad. Thats why I don’t agree with people who try to defend glinda there are a lot of glindas out there more than there are of the wizard. glindas can make a difference but nothing happens because glindas are too content in others exploitation . The sad truth is we are all glinda .

As someone whose read the books the musical is based on and seen the musical many times. I'm rather impressed with how many plot points you all put together ahead of time that both have paid off already and that will pay off in part 2. Most people do not connect the dots as well as you all did!

Nahh y'all just didn't get Glinda's vibe or character. Too focused on Fiyero choosing Glinda first blah blah when it wasnt the main plot. Both Elphaba and Glinda are good and smart in their own ways. Realistically, the public sees Elphaba as a terrorist, so it's not easy for Glinda to go with Elphaba based on how they both grew up. Elphaba was never treated well, while Glinda experienced the opposite. Glinda is someone who follows the rules and the system. Glinda's not darn evil...if anything Nessarose is as she never ONCE defended her sister. The first song Glinda sings “No One Mourns The Wicked” you can see that she is actually mourning for Elphaba when lighting the fire and she does consider herself to be bad. But she isn’t a true villain. She knows Madam Morrible is watching her. She is someone who was given a heartbreaking choice and picked the one that would keep her safe rather than the one that would put her and her family in danger. At the end of the day, Glinda understood her friend Elphaba's decision.

So as someone who’s never seen the musical and can only answer questions based of this movie and the wizard of oz. This isn’t the real story, this is based off the broadway musical that’s based off a book that was an adaptation of the original stories with the same characters (different author) but it’s a different take on the story so you can’t say this is the real story. And Glinda choose not to go with her in the end it’s suppose to be implied that she’s not going with her when she gets her the cloak that they’re saying goodbye if you look at their eyes, Ariana confirms it Glinda choose to stay, she didn’t stay because she had to cause of the guards.

if you rewatch no one mourns the wicked you can see on glindas face that shes putting on a performance for the munchkins, you can see the mask slip at times and see the pain in her eyes after she throws the torch. she loved elphie, that was her only real and true friend (tho theyre lovers in my head) but she was too afraid to go with her. glinda is very complex and from what ive heard you come to understand her character more in part 2

Glinda didn't try to go with Elphaba (which you'll see if you pay close attention to the lyrics). She loved her and understood her but she was too afraid to go against everyone in Oz, so she chose the safer route. Though there is a bit more nuance to that, which should be explored in the second film.
