I’m pretty sure the point is supposed to be that he never fully trusts anyone, even in this circumstance when Brontë is technically giving him no reason not to.

I was honestly so happy when Bronte saved Joe. I’ve been saying since S2 that I would hate if Joe died. Guys like him prefer death to prison, so jail is exactly the punishment he deserves.

yeah I also thought Joe sewing the key into his arm made no sense as a plot point 💀 he had no reason to think he was going to end up back in the cage
