Thank you for sharing. I’m inspired by your sincerity and vulnerability.

Thankyou

This is such a kind and insightful comment. Thankyou.

Oh yes! That extra energy to be normal. My love to you.

my mum's anniversary is this Sunday, so I have a similarly odd time in October... I'm fine but it's taking a tiny bit more energy to be fine. <3

I love all of this. I listened to the podcast with your brother. It must have (perhaps still) been so hurtful to not have your brother understand your comedy (and if he fundamentally believes comedy is reductive rather than, as I do, elevating). Henry seems like a ‘good’ knight. Honest, as you say. But honest and good people often see fewer gradients of meaning. Intellectually he knows they’re there. He knows and can speak about nuances, but he doesn’t really feel them. Which is why perhaps he couldn’t access you in Savage. You’re a little more Machiavellian, and that’s a compliment. You can see around corners, you see further into shadows. You are comfortable with ambiguity, can actually see that it’s the antithesis of indecision or a lack of commitment- there’s something even more substantial about being able to hold both possibilities at the same time. I can hear in your voice that you are proud of the way Henry is always comfortably ‘himself’ wherever he goes. I can also hear the (justifiable) pride in yourself for being able to be more fluid, or what the situation may need at the time. You may have been made to feel this ability was somehow ‘less than’ because of the reliable integrity your brother would display. But it’s a different sort of strength, the ability to change subtly as needed, and return to yourself again afterwards. Thank you for sharing your Mum with us. For some reason at the end of Tea With Alice I have never skipped the song she sings. Despite having heard it now, so many times! Enjoy this waiting time, and then the meeting of your new person. My friend (already a mum) said to me as she wished me well before I went into hospital ‘See you on the other side’. I didn’t know what she meant by that until I was on the other side.

Hi Alice. It seems like you are speaking good words on something I have been mulling over: being right about something in a fight can be something quite separate to reconciliation and/or moving on together. I'm reminded of the Rwanda reconciliation process where they discovered that establishing a single true history wasn't possible. And that it also wasn't necessary. All the best for your child. The world has seen darker times than now. One difference now is that all the information about its state is available to everyone.

Beautiful words, as always. The poem really resonates with me 😍 Sending love and strength xx

Thanks for the poem. Always lovely to read your poems. It was amazing pre-dawn this morning in Melbourne town - it made me think about Sara Teasdale's poem Barter - 'Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things...'. Have a super day! I love the podcast with your mum. I've listened to it a number of times now.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Aloha

Woah! If your baby is born on Thursday then we'll have the same birthday! Lovely piece and definitely thought-provoking for aspects of my own life. Best wishes.

Most inspiring, be well!
