2023 plans (mid-year update)
🕑 Added 2023-07-06 18:11:57 +0000 UTCi write one of these every 6 months or so, and here we are in july again! i might mix it up next year by doing these more often since it's nice to give a big update like this… maybe once per quarter? who knows, gonna keep thinking about it.
anyway, here's the link to the plan from back in january. i like rereading them before diving into the update since it gives me a good look at where i was at and how far i've come...! which feels EXTRA FAR this time because i released so many new games, waaah!! my large projects have stalled though... so i'll talk about those first
TRICK COMES HOME (treat series)
for trick's birthday, i managed to finish the first WIP build for this chapter!! it's been tough to get this far... i probably say this every time i give a treat update, but i try to go slowly with them because i don't want to rush and make it not as good as it could be, but i also feel bad making people wait so long for it, and i don't want to spend another 3 years making this game...
SO I'M STILL SERIOUS when i say there will be another public release before the end of this year. but i will likely be splitting this chapter into 2 parts, because it's very long and there's a lot of extra content added to the earlier chapters (namely the alternate endings!)
splitting it up makes it feel more achievable to actually finish, which motivates me to work on it instead of being overwhelmed at how much is left. i'm trying to balance having fun making it while also getting it done in a timely manner... so thank you as always for your patience. the last 10-20% of any large game is the hardest part of development every time, so i think i just have to remind myself to relax so i can get it out when i want to :)
SYRUP 2: CANDY ALCHEMY RPG
i didn't touch this game AT ALL for the past 6 months! that's pretty incredible since in the past i had always been going back to work on some system or knock out a new part of the story... it's funny to call "no progress" a huge success, but it means i was able to stay focused on what i planned to :) so i'm very happy about this.
as for release date, still aiming for end of 2024! treat might push it back a while, especially since i don't want to complete 2 huge games right after one another. one big release is mental strain enough... anyway, i'll surely go back to working on this game at some point next year! (when i stop filling my schedule up with smaller projects hahahah)
THE NEXT STARRY FLOWERS COMIC
literally just reread this one last night and now i'm excited to get back to it... i had finished some of the lineart (for random panels that i liked) and started on the lettering, but i haven't touched this since i mentioned it last time. again, because i was focused on all those other projects.
but i find it hilarious that i ALWAYS release 18+ comics during november, and i'd like to keep up the tradition with this one... so i plan to blast on this in the latter half of october!
GAME JAMS
"no promises," i said... and then i went on to release jam games almost every month this year... i had a ton of fun, and i'm really glad all of those projects were well-received. in particular i'd like to add more chapters to sex advice succubus whenever i can find the time...!
i think i mentioned in a dev diary or something that i wanted to y*ri jam again this year (sorry as always that patreon makes me censor it), but my schedule is looking really packed around those months... i have done ENOUGH JAMS... it's time to rest.
there's one more ludum dare this year though, so i will be participating in that again with the same group as always, since it's just for a weekend :) JAMS ARE FUN!!! next year i will do them in a more balanced way so i don't feel like i've fallen so far behind on all the other stuff i'm doing.
ANOTHER PIECE OF CANDY
this is the biggest one right now, because i'm preparing to get the first volume printed. REAL BOOKS... WAAAHH!!!! i'm nervous about it, but i'm limiting the stock so i don't get too overwhelmed having to ship out the orders myself. i can always reprint more later, too...
i'm only worrying about it because i want them to be ready by the comic's anniversary (8/27) and i don't know how long books take since i have to wait for proofs to come in the mail and whatnot... exploring a lot of new territory with regards to merch since i actually have the time/energy for it! anyway, i'm trying to finish the pdf this month, but i need to draw a cover for it first, so that's my main priority.
there's another daily update event planned for the anniversary too! readers will get to vote on who will be added to the cast (out of 7 "applicants") so i've drawn comics of all of them auditioning for that spot. i really enjoy doing audience participation-type events, so i look forward to seeing who everyone will vote for <3
it was a long update this time...
i have too much going on!!!!!!! writing it all down like this helps me sort it out in my head too though, so whenever i'm feeling a bit tired and just know that i need to work on something, i don't have to think about what that something needs to be... yknow???? i guess i shouldn't work if i'm tired. but drawing is relaxing too... it feels good to finish things.......

EXTREMELY LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE TREAT 8 STUFF!!!! The Patreon build from a bit ago has so much fricking fun writing in it with all that's there, and I'm genuinely super looking forward to more Trick's dad lore/main story stuff!!! I wanna cry about Trick a little. Or a lot. Or a lotta lot. But I also wanna cry a bunch before getting to Trick by replaying the game once the second part is released, so!!!!!!! And before then, feeling very upset in a very specific way from the bad ends, pff...... Who knows if they'll all make it into the first part's release (part of me assumes one of 'em'll be in the second part specifically. That's just an assumption, though!!), but looking forward to them all, regardless, even if they might make my heart die a little. AND ALSO EXTREMELY LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE SYRUP 2 STUFF!!!! One day.......... 2024 feels so fricking far off, the end of 2024 especially, but one must be patient and wait for the things they super fricking love, pff. Seeing certain relationships progress, hopefully, to their zeniths and also getting much more content out of the characters in the story's like...... so fricking exciting. Who knows if Syrup and Butterscotch shall date, who knows what other relationship entanglement shall occur between the other four main friends (hoping for Toffee and Butterscotch interacting with Gumdrop most of all, of course), and who knows how genuinely painful the bad endings will be, but......... I mean, Syrup 2 is Syrup 2, and I've loved Syrup 2 so far!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully progress can be made on it steadily and happily!!!!! Having no details on the Starry Flowers comic outside of that one ask on cohost about whether Pastille gets jealous, with its response of "I can't wait", I mean........ I'm very much looking forward to it, pff. The sweet and playful vibes of the first one were great, and who knows how far it'll go this second time, or what sorta vibes there'll be, but I mean, yaoi. Who doesn't love yaoi, especially between two cute boys, one perfect aside from his inability to ask for things he wants, the other utterly obsessed with said perfect boy and addicted to teasing said perfect boy. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT IN THE AUTUMN MONTHS!!!!! THE GAME JAMS WERE EXTREMELY STRONG THIS YEAR, SO SKIPPING OUT ON YURI JAM IS COMPLETELY REASONABLE!!!! You've put much effort into many other subjects besides yuri, like girls being nervous about their potential yuri futures while also talking about some fun things to enjoy said potential future yuri, and girls being friends despite being polar opposites and hugging and also school anxiety oh god school anxiety, and a moth girl and a spider girl hugging. Which is to say, I think those three games had yuri in them in some form, Sex Advice Succubus obviously being the one with the, uh, most flagrant themes, pff. Also Rain on Their Parade! had yuri in it, too!!!!! One may say that the Cassia and Poffin games didn't have yuri, but girls being friends is an extremely nice vibe, and constitutes as some form of yuri to me!!!!! That's what Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet's all about, after all, and that was for the fricking annual Yuri Jam!!!! (even with the admittance that it had the least amount of yuri, pff. BUT IT WAS YURI!!!!!! AND THESE OTHER JAMS WERE YURI!!!!!!! THAT'S MY TAKE!!!!!!! (I'm aro so my perspective on this may or may not be biased a bit, but..... Yuri Jam 2023 has already been fulfilled, in my opinion!!!)) AND................... AAAAAAAAAAAAAA. You know it is kinda funky that the anniversary happens one day before Butterscotch's birthday, you'd really think it'd happen right before Gumdrop's or something, thematically speaking, but. I guess Butterscotch fits, too, with her perchance for going for another piece of candy constantly, at times, and we love her for it. Anyway, random tangent aside, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA physical apoc books........ I mean, I'm looking forward to it, and GANBAAAA WITH THE PROCESS!!!!!!! Hopefully in time for the anniversary, but, y'know, anytime's fine, pff. WE JUST WANT 'EM!!!!! And hopefully I can snag one, when they're ready!!!!!! But also, the audition event sounds super fricking fun, pff. I get the feeling that I know who's gonna win, ultimately, but the future is truly unpredictable, and, regardless, it sounds like it'll be fun as hell to see!!!!! Seven characters is so many, though.......... Truly cannot imagine which characters are going to fill in all the slots, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it!!!! I figure Maia won't be there, 'cause she's not really a part of the Syrupverse, but Astragalus....... AND MAYBE VINEGAR........... Definitely Qmin and Cassia, I assume, but..... who the frick is gonna fill out this roster. ...Incidentally also fun that, since it's a 7 contestant thing, that's one whole week of contestants with the daily posts, pff. I guess there'll be more than 7 comics total for it, though!!! But y'know. One full week of seeing these main characters and side characters vying for a spot in the comic!!!!! A pretty fricking good anniversary event, I think. ANYWAY I RAMBLED A LOT HERE BUT RAMBLING IS FUN!!! Hopefully the rest of 2023 is as productive and fun as can be, apart from vacationing later, which will hopefully just be fun!!!! BEST OF LUCK WITH THE TREAT DEV'ING AND OTHERSUCH THINGS, GANBAAAA!!!!!
