🕑 Added 2024-10-14 19:29:07 +0000 UTCin my last big post i talked a lot about my dad. i said he wasn't about to die or anything, because his recovery from his last hospital stay was going really well, and i didn't want anyone to worry. but you never know with these things.
on the morning of october 8th, my dad passed away very suddenly due to heart failure. today would've been his 70th birthday.
i'm grateful for the time i had with him and of course for him raising me so well! he would've wanted people to smile and make jokes despite the circumstances, so i've been trying to just carry on remembering the good times and whatnot. cried a lot the first few days, but it's not really despair, it's like... an "i love my dad!!!!!" sort of cry. crying for my family who have to deal with the logistics of things on top of mourning. shit's hard.
anyway, i felt like i should make this post since i JUST talked about my dad on here, and it would be weird not to say it. this obviously affects my work too. kinda just doing the bare minimum (or whatever i feel up to) right now. which turns out to be mostly working on my website, since it's fun and relaxing for me...
idk, i'm not very good at these serious type of posts. tell a dad joke on behalf of my poppa today! take care, everyone <3

I'm so sorry for your sudden loss. I can understand a bit how you are feeling right now, as I lost my dad relatively suddenly in August. I say relatively, because he had advanced Parkinson's, but one day he was rushed to the hospital because he was unresponsive, and he died 2 days later. He was also a huge fan of terrible dad jokes, and I would love to share with you one he cracked when a friend of mine was at my house when we were in high school. He had made some sort of chicken for dinner, and I picked a little piece out of the dish and popped it into mouth, as my friend and I were heading out the door. I said "Ooh, this chicken is good!" My dad replied with, in his Americanized Chinese accent, "Yeah, it's really well behaved." My friend took 2 steps toward the door, then burst out laughing when she realized what he'd said. I hope you have the same reaction!

My grandfather passed away 8 years ago, and he was the most important person in my life outside of my mother. I understand how hard it can be to deal with that kind of loss. All I can say is please stay strong, and take it one day at a time.

You have my condolences. My dad passed away due to heart complications too. He was there in my life, and then he was gone. It took a little while for it to really sink in. It just felt surreal, y’know? He was a bit of a jokester, so there was a goofy cardboard cutout of the grim reaper at the funeral and smiley face pins for everyone who attended. I miss him a lot. If time heals all wounds, take as much time as you need. Stay strong, Nami. <3
