Sources are Rush to Gold: The French and the California Gold Rush 1848-1854 (2013) by Malcolm J. Rohrbough, White Noise (1985) by DeLillo, Slouching Towards Bethlehem (1968) and Where I was From (2003) by Joan Didion.

Great video! just a note about one interesting point about the growth of California being government reliant. Even now I have heard as a political gotcha in the United States that “red states take more government money and welfare than blue states”. I can see a Californian saying this.

I agree

However, the myth of CA does continue by other means. Its virtually mapped simulated second cummings resurrects in the feeds of NFL goldminer’s California dreamin’: with the 49ers and Taylor Swift’s Chiefs carrying the overexposed secret of the dream of ‘stardom born’ over the PsyOp end zone of Kapitalism.

Big Sur has been called the "longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States",[1] a sublime "national treasure that demands extraordinary procedures to protect it from development",[2] and "one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere in the world, an isolated stretch of road, mythic in reputation".[ From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Sur Big Sur is also the site of many writings by Henry Miller, who lent it a mythic quality in his writing.

Probably late to this, haven’t read all California related comments but I presume you’ve also been delving into Malcolm Harris’ tome about Pało Alto? Enjoying these more , ahem, interdisciplinary forays and seeing how they connect to all your other content, keep going

Election year: that time we’re reminded that we must dutifully execute our civic right to choose. Try taking acid and watching the news all night like Hunter S Thompson. It’s good for your health.

I like it, it's interesting being from eastern Europe to have those powers that governed my life without me even knowing, now nicely explained, keep going pal.

I keep getting “content not available” for your vids. I have a Patreon video subscription. Is it the app? YouTube? Any ideas? Sorry to use the comment section as tech support.

Bravo! Encore. I look forward to the next chapter. I write this comment living next to the Trans American Pryamid and the site where the Australian crime bosses were hung in the 1850's. (The Barbary Coast) We're all wondering about the new and next frontier. Now listening to the Grateful Dead "Estimated Prophet."

Remembering graduate school in the 90s, Madonna studies were a thing ;)
