Announcing THE DARK CARIBBEAN: A Campaign Setting For 5e & Mörk Borg
🕑 Added 2021-06-10 18:03:27 +0000 UTCI'm excited to announce THE DARK CARIBBEAN, a grimdark campaign setting for 5e & MÖRK BORG inspired by history, fantasy, horror, and rum.
TL;DR
- I’m Kickstarting two hardcover setting books: one for 5e and one for MÖRK BORG.
- Hoping to launch by the end of the year.
- RIYL: Grimdark, Pirates of the Caribbean, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, H.P. Lovecraft, Zombie Movies, and Indiana Jones.
- I will release content from it on my Patreon, but it will always be the 2nd or later release of the month. (Consider limiting your pledge instead of unsubscribing!)
- There will be lots of original art and maps, plus classes, equipment, rulesets, and adventures.
- All active Patrons will receive extra rewards or discounts (details TBD).
- Admiral patrons and higher will have their names printed in the book.
- Stretch goals might include printed maps, ship & monster cards, dice, and more.
- I will need playtesters, and those that provide feedback will receive the PDFs for free. Sign up here to become a playtester.
- We will be running a large, West Marches style campaign through the Discord server and Foundry VTT. All $5+ patrons are invited to play (plus anyone invited by a DM), and there will be several Dungeon Masters. Both 5E & MÖRK BORG will be used. Sign up here if you want to play in the Campaign.
THE SETTING
The year is 1715, and the Caribbean is a tropical paradise shadowed by morbid times.
The Spanish Conquistadors and English Empire are at war, fighting over the region's treasures and trade routes, while the French play both sides with a clandestine network of spies and assassins. In the Bahamas, an alliance of pirates and cutthroats known as The Brethren of the Coast have overtaken the town of Nassau. Their new magistrate is the dread pirate BLACKBEARD.
All the while, rumors are spreading. Pagan rituals, Vodou incantations, and the prayers of monks and missionaries have immediate and tangible results that cannot be explained. Old magic is more than a thing of legend in this place..
Behind the scenes, a covert cult known only as The Wretched conspire to summon dark creatures from the deep, while the merfolk Atlanteans lie in wait, vowing to protect the seas from these new adversaries. But these are just the forces of life that inhabit these waters…
Rafts overflowing with ravenous zombies drift upon the waves, satiated only by human flesh. Evil hoards of skeletons, puppeted by some unknown force, sail the seas in cursed galleons, spreading death in their wake. Ships disappear constantly, and marooned sailors weave tales of ghostly vessels who burn entire treasure fleets just to watch them sink. Something foul plagues the DARK CARIBBEAN...

Both books will be released via Kickstarter, and there will be two different editions: a 5e compatible version and a MÖRG BORG version. MÖRK BORG is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world. They have an increible community and the MÖRK BORG CULT, and a very open 3rd party license.
PLAYTESTING
As content comes online, I will need playtesters: beta reader, players, and DMs.. If you are interested in partaking, fill out the form below. All playtesters that submit at least one feedback report will receive the PDFs for free when they are completed, and they will be listed in the credits. Spots are limited.

CAMPAIGN
We will be running a large, multi-group, West Marches style campaign through Foundry VTT and the Discord server, and we are looking for players and GMs. No start date as of yet, but you will be able to bring your character to any session of the same system: 5e/MORK BORG (assuming it survives), and sessions will be structured as one-shot missions and short campaigns in a living world.
