487 is a new body filled with the memory and info that 486 had up to the moment of his very death. 298 was created because zak was ejected outside the range of communications, and since he never came back, they assumed he was dead and made a new one from an older backup. zak, for all intend and purpose, is a corrupted backup file.

Ok, so is he ACTUALLY 486 or just a copy who thinks he is the original? 'cus I thought they replaced Zac with a copy since he is thought to be dead.
