It sounds weird, but in his thinking process he is basically saying he is going to fight Macey to prove to her she cant beat him in doing so know that fighting the Nihallaks is a lost cause at least the way she is thinking about it. Basically trying every way to stop her from rushing head long into danger, without knowing the surrounding area of the place they are going to raid and such.
