She was fast (33+ knots), heavily armed with nine 16-inch/50 caliber Mark 7 guns, bristling with AA firepower, and—unlike many big-gun ships that saw short careers—she served in four separate conflicts: World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Lebanese Civil War in the 1980s.
Fun fact?
In 1968, New Jersey became the only battleship to serve in Vietnam. Her job wasn't duking it out with other warships. Instead, it was shore bombardment. Let's say she did it with style. Her 16-inch guns could lob a 2,700-pound shell over 20 miles inland, which meant she could sit offshore and flatten enemy positions that helicopters couldn't reach. Troops nicknamed her The Big J and loved her for it—she could basically delete a chunk of jungle with a single broadside.
Here is a "crowd-pleasing" fact! When she fired all nine main guns at once, the recoil would shove her 45,000-ton hull sideways several feet in the water—and you (supposedly) could feel it on deck like a mini earthquake. Seriously, just search for videos of her broadsides on Youtube.
Also, considering which animal she resembles, do you know that female rabbits are called reflex ovulators? It means that unlike many other mammals, ovulation in female rabbits is not a regular cycle but is triggered by copulation. Basically, if New Jersey assured you that "it's a safe day today, honey~," you might want to be extra careful.

The list is endless when talking about New Jersey’s exploits. She was launched on December 7th, 1942, one year after the ill fated surprise attack on Pearl Harbour by the Japanese. She is the second most decorated warship in US Navy history, as well as the most decorated battleship, and most decorated surviving warship, of the US Navy, earning 19 battle and campaign stars over her 21.5 years of service, with nine battle stars for her World War II service, four for the Korean War, three for the Vietnam War, and three for action in Lebanon and the Persian Gulf region. She was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest battleship ever. Only New Jersey played a role in every major amphibious invasion after 1943, taking part in the Marshall Islands, the Caroline Islands, the Marianas Islands, New Guinea, the Palau Islands, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. In 1969, whilst firing on coastal artillery sites at Han Mat Island, New Jersey inflicted so much damage with her heavy firepower that a large section of the island was completely and utterly destroyed, which led to her being affectionately credited for sinking an island. New Jersey also holds the distinction of being the only warship to go into battle with 2 very interesting additions, as during her retrofit during the Vietnam War, in 1968, her 20mm and 40mm anti-aircraft gun turrets were removed to allow for the installation of improved electronic warfare systems and improvements to her radar, however, her two forward port and starboard anti-aircraft emplacements were sealed, painted blue, and filled with water to be used as swimming pools. Yes, USS New Jersey went into service in the Vietnam War with two swimming pools on her deck. Also, bonus little fun fact, and this applies to ALL Eagle Union girls, but is more noticeable with New Jersey given her second Secretary (Idle) voiceline for her Midsummer Leisure skin, but in 1943, to help boost morale for sailors and Marines in the Pacific Theatre, the US Navy spent $1 million ($18,619,828.90 today), on the BRL (Barge, Refrigerated, Large). This was a towed vessel that was capable of storing frozen and refrigerated foodstuffs, but more importantly, it could produce ice cream, and in very large quantities. It could create 10 US gallons (38 litres), of ice cream every SEVEN MINUTES, or approximately 500 gallons (1,900 litres), per shift (equivalent to FIVE TONS A DAY), and could store 2,000 gallons (7,600 litres). So it stands to reason that all Eagle Union girls (yes, even the ever stoic Enterprise), should LOVE ice cream. Utterly adorable.
