Absolutely and I’m sorry to hear you are going through that. While deep in an ED, the ED thoughts cloud everything. I wanted people to think I was eating a ton so they wouldn’t ask. ED thoughts love to tell the sufferer they must create secrecy around their disorder. Posting junk food is like a shield but ironically it still exposes the person as being completely preoccupied with food.

Okay, thank you for this. I have a family member with an eating disorder that is constantly posting pictures of all the desserts she orders and is always talking about all the candy she consumes, when it’s very obvious that she eats none of it. It’s so confusing and a real bummer to witness.

Something that struck me when you mentioned jj’s post is that it’s super common in the ED/thinspo community to count days without food- so even with her saying she wants a donut it would be pretty out of line for a true recovery account to post a number like “3 days without solid food.” It made me think that she’s actually still very active in her ED and using these illnesses/procedures to explain away her thinness. Perfect cover. And what you mentioned about her pushing donuts and junk food- it’s another classic behavior of someone active in their ED. it’s common for people to be really into baking and pushing food onto others so they gain weight while the pusher does not. EDs 101!!

Yes to gate keeping thinness. I’ve always thought that her rants against ozempic, etc have been rooted in not wanting everyone to have access to a thinner figure.
