As they scratch the surface, they learn that the woman, Shelley Sykes, had done something of a press tour about the tragedy. A deeper dive reveals that she was a contestant on several reality competition shows in the past; and raises questions about her son's disability and validity of his "child stardom."

Edward de Bono’s thinking matrix’s are taught in schools in New Zealand. I’m not sure whether he is snake oil or not, but we had to study his thinking hats in elementary/primary school so I always thought he was legit (which makes this weirder)

I don’t think it’s that’s suspicious that an older mother couldn’t get her adult son living with CP to leave the house. There’s some comorbidity between CP and other disorders like autism and intellectual disability. He could have refused to leave for OCD reasons or not understanding the consequences of his choice to stay. You can’t force an adult to evacuate. She’s clearly an attention whore tho. 👀

I think it’s weird that Shelly Sykes keeps presenting the story as that she’s on a first name basis with the firefighters and that her recollection of what they told her is always like “Shelly, we don’t have any water.” That either a) didn’t happen that way, except in her head or b) she’s at the fire station all the time because she’s nuts. Neither explanation is good.

Well I checked on Dr Skyes. She does live in Malibu. The address I could find for her, the house and the casitas did burn down per the recovery website. LA county has a website and they are posting pictures of all the houses in the two fire areas, so people can see the damage.
