I mean maybe... but Cooper's letter does suggest both his mother and siblings are gone, which could allude to the fact they live a ways from Cooper *or* they've estranged him (or vice versa). I could see it if Cooper was in serious Legal trouble and needed a next of kin, or perhaps by surprise. Food to munch on.

I have strong feeling that we’re gonna meet coop’s new roommate and I don’t know if we’re gonna like him. I do really enjoy seeing coop be a little more vulnerable and real though, facing his emotions a little more head on is refreshing
