I think for 2021 I heard you’ll actually start to see improvements to the VSE in blender so hopefully it is usable. I’d love to see anything even remotely close to iMovie level capabilities. Maybe minus the auto collapsing timeline. I can’t imagine blender would ever incorporate that feature. But I’d love to see basic color, more basic effects and some key framing more accessible in VSE.

Also, could potentially do this partially procedurally by shift+A adding in this "scene" while in the VSE, but in a different scene (but same project). You can then retime other scenes, Blender will interpolate new keyframe timing from other scenes, so you could retime this transition on the fly... probably? I've run into a few bugs doing this, but it's been a lifesaver when doing commercial work.

Yeah VSE and compositor are the two weakest links of Blender imo. Been following this religiously https://developer.blender.org/T78986
