by the way cool trick: hum or whistle your melody and fl studo can make notes out of that (or get pretty close if you're performance is off key, which mine always is)

general workflow: 1) I think up a tune in my head 2) I press keys on the piano until it sounds the same 3) Put that in FL Studio 4) add chords, drum beats etc
