The thing is Loredan said "trust us to handle things" but he also said "we do not have a plan yet and while we make a plan those Students are not supposed to sit there and listen in". This means so far there is no plan... The Headmaster in the moment seems to think they can handle it without Liv and her group... Honestly HE was the one who TOLD Liv about the Book in the first place I'm almost certain he guessed about all of that already but didn't want to be the one to dig in strange things without sufficient cause... IF he and the other Professors decide they could use support I'm pretty sure they'll ask for it... Thing is he was right if anything Liv and Wren could offer their support to the Masters to be assigned a certain role in the plan when the time comes. They neither need nor are supposed to get the whole information on how the most powerful group of Mages of the Kingdom decides to spend the next few month addressing a threat. The fact that they ARE now clearly doing something should in my opinion be enough. Liv though obviously seems to think the fact she isn't allowed to listen in means they aren't doing anything or not doing enough... And act based on that. At least from how she is speaking after they are kicked out of the meeting. Wren too is acting strange... How old is she again? 70 a hundred? Isn't she one of the immortal Great Bats... Why is she acting like a moody teenager "Oh no I spend a few months spying on these guys and now I won't even get the chance to risk my life fighting them this is so unfair!!" I mean GETTING THE PROFESSORS TO DEAL WITH IT, was the entire PLAN before... Now they get Hero syndrom having to do it "all ourselves". Rose too... She is talking like someone told them "You are ordered to forget everything happened and to not prepare at all". The Archmage told them they can't listen in on the plans of the Mastermages not forbade them from practicing combat or something... This isn't bad writing or anything its a bunch of teens being pissed the Adults decide to approach a problem as Adults do, with other adults. And somehow then interprete "We do not need you to sit in on our strategy meeting its our duty to deal with this and protect everyone here" as "We don't take this problem seriously"... And go off doing some stupid stuff. Which I hope won't magically work out because its the "main character doing it". Realistically there is really nothing these guys can come up with the Professors won't think off and be able to handle... They all have the same information at this point after all.

Tarrim

I read it as her asking to be kept in the loop and Loredan saying no we got this now. I am worried your interpretation of what is said afterwards is correct, but I don't think it is. She is worried their plans won't work and hasn't entirely learned to trust them yet. So wants to be ready to act if necessary. I think both are possible but really hope mine is.

No man she doesn't at all to ask that... The Proffessors said "We will make the plan tonight when all masters are available and don't need these Students here for this discussion" thats what HAPPENED. The facts. Liv now is going off planning to get Arjun "combat ready" as a consequence of him saying "I can only run away when a fully armed Merc is attacking me" -> This sequence of actions literally ONLY makes sense to rush this quickly if she is planning to have Arjun (and thus the rest) fight those mercs at least thats she's planning that right now. Tephania doesn't even have a word of Power yet... Liv has very little experience fighting in the water, none of the group except Liv and Wren ever killed someone or probably even seriously fought other humans. I don't know where you took your interpretation from but Liv was pissed at Loredan "kicking them out" and she concludes "The Eld didn't do anything this means this College will for sure do the same thing so we need to solve this" well what she does now I'm not sure I really hope she gets her act together after realizing the ridiculousness of her plan wants they actually go to make one for the next King tide. One more thing: She wasn't "teaching Arjun to fight with his magic" she was pushin someone who loves healing dedicated his live to learning it into twisting his healing magic in something that hurts humans and beasts. Thats a difference its something that in stories Villains do the typical "disregarding others' wishes for the cause/their own good"...

Tarrim

She doesn't ask to be on the team or for her friends to be there all she asks is to know what will happen. I don't blame the professors for keeping it from her or her for wanting to know. Afterwords she is frustrated and worried something will go wrong due to what happened to the eld. So she pushes their training harder she probably had the thoughts about how to use bone magic offensively before but had held back due to its implications. I really wish it was explained properly this chapter because I am worried based on what this chapter says the author is setting up Liv to act like an idiot.

Gopard

The funny thing is though: there is no plan yet... The Archmage literally said "we will MAKE a plan tonight when all proffessors are present". Liv could try to find arguments and ask tomorrow or in a few days wether they'd give her more information. The biggest thing for me is though that clearly the author intends to have Liv's friend group kind of world as a "single entity" now with grouping them always together... However for THIS problem? Liv herself MIGHT be qualified to be kept in the loop as she is at the level of a Journeyman in magical combat but the others have zero business there... If there is an operation planned to go into those ruins or set a trap for the mercs using Liv as a combatant might well make sense but none of her friends should be anywhere near that kind of threat for now. Simple as that.

Tarrim

I don't blame her for wanting to know the plan. She's worried about what is happening, traumatized by what happened to her grandfather, and just did a ton of work with tacit permission and now is being pushed off to the side. As long as she's let's the professors handle it and is only getting her friends ready to deal with any potential issues I don't think have a problem with anything. If she suddenly decides she can handle things better and trys to take matters into her own hands that is when I will not like it.

307Bookworm_AOB

Reminds me of another event. How her common sense is dwindling is astonishing. As well as her selfish, apathetic attitude, short temper and disregard for authority. Very much in contrast to how she was for the past 20+ years.

Tarrim

Traumatizing Arjun is probably necessary in the long run. He needs to be able to use his magic offensively. I'm hoping all they are planning on doing is making sure they are all ready to deal with whatever happens, rather than interfering on the day. It's not clear based on this chapter IMO. Even if they professors successfully deal with this problem Liv wants them all to be ready when Ractia moves against Lucania.

Gopard

Thanks for the chapter! So Liv finally all the responsible adults take the issue you brought before them seriously and act responsible and you decide to immediately go off on your own traumatizing Arjun and probably are planning to break a bunch of regulations huh? I wonder shouldn't those kids be you know out of that age now? I was skeptical of that anyway how suddenly these college kids 18/19 turned into the most irresponsible teenagers imaginable... They should all be old enough to at least wait for one more day and try to talk to the proffessors after that meeting... But then we wouldn't get half the interesting action and plot if everyone started acting reasonably I guess^^

Kyle

I'm thinking bone armor kinda like monster hunter. OR make some gauntlets from bone

Tarrim

Potentially he could use bones to create knife like weapons he could fling using his authority but that isn't going to immediately push him into advanced magical combat. Edit* Depending how accurately and how fast he can reshape bones he could also potentially be great at laying down sigils for an enchanted bone of some sort.

Tarrim

I think using his word in a duel would be frowned upon unless he can figure out to win with it without causing major injuries. I think some uses like bone armor would be impractical because it probably doesn't summon bone from nothing. Carrying enough bone for that would be awkward both socially and physically. He could potentially keep a few bones on him to reshape for some purposes.

Kyle

Yeah depending on how versatile the word is Arjun can become a monster it'd be hilarious if he just jumped to the advanced combat magic course

Tarrim

Does it only work on living bones or do dead ones work? There are a bunch of other interesting questions obviously it can help bones heal but can he reshape bones at will? Or are there limits to that do those limits change if it is a bone by itself or if it is in a living body.

Kyle

Oh no Liv is gonna traumatize the poor boy. Wonder if you can make bone armor and use the word on it to make weapons 🤔

william wallace

There goes Liv… corrupting the sweet innocent healer with a bit of light torture…

sjturner79

its better to be practicing breaking bones on a chicken than a person isn't ?

Alexander Johnson

The possibilities are endless!

Tarrim

She winced, but continued on into her bedchamber and retried Faramond Blackstone’s book Retried> retrieved Edit* “Great-Uncle?” Tephania mouthed silence, and Liv could do nothing but shrug and shake her head. I'd remove silence from this sentence or replace with silently.

Tarrim

Or just force rapid growth in bones until it swallows vital resources from the rest of the body and kills or disables them. That one might be too slow though. I'm guessing break instead of mend as the primary method a good way to disable or kill quickly and won't be quite as torturous as some other options.

Tarrim

Surprised we got this mini time skip at the start of this chapter. I hope this isn't going the incompetent adults trope or the kids interfere in something they don't really understand and cause problems trope. Edit* I'd like it if it was made clear that they will let the professors do their jobs and won't take matters into their own hands but want to be ready to respond if something goes wrong.

Tarrim

Something tells me Arjun won't like this training one bit

Jake

It's a good thing Liv is an accomplished cook.

william wallace

Wait. Why does she need a chicken? Is it a live chicken?!?! This is not helping human-eldish relations. Why do I feel this will end horribly? What did the poor chicken ever do to her? Does it have to be a chicken? Part of me expects a jump cut where everyone walks out of the warehouse covered in feathers and viscera looking queasy and Liv just dead pans ‘So, obviously mistakes were made…’ You can leave us like this. That chicken is heading to a horrible end and now I need to know.

Alexander Johnson

Imagine, you're an aggressive attacker and all of a sudden you're knee cap grows to the size of a watermelon! Or perhaps the little bones that make up your inner ear grow to the size of #2 pencils and pierce your ear drums😈

Alexander Johnson

Oh boy, can't wait to see what Liv has in mind😈 Maybe using the word to break instead mend? Or overgrowth of the attackers bones in real-time? Maybe immobilize the skeleton?
